Which metal gear? You mean the first games on nes/msx, or the "solid" games? (I like "twin snakes", a remake of the first solid game )
I played the original Metal Gear when it first released on NES took me forever to grasp the concept of it, but once I did it was pretty cool and actually completed it. Never really played much of the 2nd one. and as for the Solid games its sad for me to admit but I own or have owned all 4 of them and played maybe 20 minutes of the first one and got distracted to something else and never went back to it and still haven't touched 2-4. a friend of mine thinks its the best series of its genre he ranted about 4 for ages.
I recommend you play them. MGS 1 stands the test of time in terms of voice acting, story and gameplay. Graphics are dated but understandable. Personally I think MGS3 is the worst, but I know I'm a minority so eh. I liked the first Solid and the fourth one a lot (MGS4 does have stealth, it's just you can chose to gun it, or not to). MGS2 close second, and the 3rd behind the pack. I haven't played the originals to comment on them, so yeah.
My favorite is MGS3 by far. MGS2 was OK, I guess, but you have to put up with really annoying dialog, and long ass codec conversations (I know all the MGS games have this, but at least in other MGS games the conversations were actually interesting), and then the environments are bland, and it has useless weapons, like the Grenade Launcher, and Sniper Rifle. MGS4 was cool, but the amount of weapons is annoying, your playing a stealth action game, and then they dangle in front of you a shit load of weapons that aren't silencer compatible. All I needed in MGS3 was my 1911, the Mk22, and the Mosin Nagant, and then in a couple occasions the RPG, or Machine Gun. Only thing I ever use in MGS4 is the M4 SOPMOD with Masterkey, Scope, and Laser, along with my Ruger MkII, and then of course some other weapons for different occasions, like a rocket launcher for an APC. What I also didn't like was the lack of the memorable weapons from the series. Where's the SAA? Where's the AK-74U? Where's the FAMAS? Where's the PSG-1? But overall, I've really enjoyed the series.
The series is quite good for me. When I borrowed the first MGS from my friend (he was asking me to try it) I never thought I ill play it until the end. Though I skip most scenes since the story was quite confusing for me that time. But the stealth gameplay (as simple as it was) was quit fun. And after that I start trying the other MGS games, the rest was still quite fun and have good story too.
MG for the MSX was fun MG for the NES is that even part of the franchise? as for the solid series I'd go for MGS Twin Snakes (much better than Integral), MGS Peace Walker, MGS 4, MGS 2 Sons of Liberty, then 3
MGS1 > MGS2 > MGSW > MGS3 (Note: I've never played MGS4 so I can't comment on it) It's a pretty rad game. Also, go download the GBC MGS, I dare you. https://www.romulation.org/Retro/GameBoy_&_GameBoy_Colour/Metal_Gear_Solid.7z.html/ See, I even gave you a link so you don't have to search. You have no choice but to play it now.
mgs2 was best the 3rd sucked. I cant even think what it is thats so bad, theres nothing in particular that makes it bad its just everything together add up to CRAP
I found that a lot of the game's mechanics were just dumb to add, the addition of camo, and bullet wounds meant a lot of pausing and interrupting the action. Along with that the story isn't as interesting as MGS1/2/4.
The majority of MGS fans hated MGS2 for a number of reasons. - Whiny, boring, annoying, stupid main character - Uninteresting cutscenes/codec conversations that drone on forever. In MGS1 every time you save, Mai Ling tells you a Chinese proverb, and how it relates to scenarios Snake will have to overcome, MGS2 you have Rose go on for 10 minutes about their relationship, and how much they love each other. - Lame ass bosses (How the hell could a little bitch like Raiden take out Doc Ock- I mean Solidus, the so called "Perfect" clone of Big Boss?) - Bland environments - Uninteresting plot - Has weapons you'll never use (PSG-1, Grenade Launcher) more than once. I liked the Camo, it added realism to the game, same with the healing of wounds. I liked it more than just popping open a can of food that magically heals your bullet holes. XD But I do agree, constantly opening a menu was lame. They could have had it at least so you hold both L2 and R2 (At the same time), and use both sticks left stick to select body camo, and right for face camo.
Uninteresting plot? MGS2 was the beginning of the beautiful mess that is MGS. The introduction of Ocelot/Liquid, and the Patriots. I never liked MGS3 because the plot doesn't have as much depth as MGS2/MGS1 's, likewise with the bosses. And I didn't like the camo mostly because of the menu, but also because I was playing Metal Gear, which I see as an arcadey stealth action game, not Splinter Cell realism. If you chose to stealth through MGS4, it's a lot more arcadey since you don't have to switch out camos frequently. I also liked the bosses in MGS2, but opinions will vary so whatever. Vamp, Fatman and the Lightning gun chick I remember really well.
I dunno, I just found it kinda confusing. Hard to keep up with the hours of constant codec chatter and shit. And as for the bosses, I just didn't find the fights themselves that interesting. Vamp was kinda lame, the Helo was lame, and so forth.
I actually quite like Raiden. At least, I don't see why everyone hates him. The Metal Gear franchise is pretty cool in general. Even the new games. I mean, they're not as good as the old ones, but they're not bad games.
nope I only played metal gear solid(first game on gbc)metal gear solid portable ops(sucks) and mgs pw but soon Im gonna play rising(when it comes out)
