Mate?

In the UK everyone says mate at the end of their sentances, "ive been shopping mate" "do you wanna come to football mate?"
I hate it, it sounds real common but i do it all the time with my mates
Im just wondering if other countries do this?

Around Aus here most people say it as a greeting like "G'day mate" or to catch someones attention like shouting "Hey, Mate!", but some people do use it at the end of every sentence.
