Okay, someone asked me to try and fix their computer. Their first issue was, that the malware would not allow some devices to be detected, which includes a CricKet mobile broadband device. I easily took care of that problem, took all the data off the CricKet device CD on my computer, burned it to a CD, and ran the setup on their computer. SUCCESS! So I rebooted the computer, tried to run a computer fixing device called FixWin. He has no Task Manager, Device Manager, can't show hidden files, one of his fans broke, and many more problems I could list I clicked Fix Now on all of them. FAIL. So I tried running a TuneUp Utilities Full Edition (used my serial) setup, to try and pinpoint the problem. SUCCESS AND FAIL. It optimized their computer, but no virus was gotten rid of out of the regestry. Damn. I tried installing Avast!. SUCC... FAIL. It went through the installation fine, but the GUI would not open. DAMN. Last issue. I tried going into Safe Mode, and redoing all the stuff that failed. FAIL AGAIN. I tried running Microsoft Malware Remover. SU...FAIL AGAIN!!!! It unpacks, and gets to the first screen, but than does it. I tried running it as admin. FAIL. Source of the problem: Possibly from PSP Game Torrent/download, downloads PSP Games regularly from PSPMafia's forums, and occasionally torrents.
...I feel for your friend. He has the exact...or worse...problem of what my mother has (we can't open command prompt..my younger years of the internet screwed it up). Do what she hasn't done for 2 years since this started, and reformat it. Save what you can...that broken fan though needs replacing prehaps. Installing anti virus programs on an infected pc doesn't help much, I tired avg on my mother's, the install was buggy (had to shut down her pc 3 times to get any of it to work) and while we got some files...command promt wasn't showing thus the problem was hidding it's self...not sure how to explain it... All I know is installing norton over the top of it like my mother did had even less effect than avg That and people told me that won't help...not sure what else to do but reformat.
How can the result be a success and fail? Since you haven't solve anything,It supposed to be FAIL. ..why use Avast? AVG is much better. Anyway, backup/reformat is your best option.. for now. and always read the comment(if any) before using/download any torrent.
some malware blocks removal software from running. they can also block task manager and regedit. Reformatting is the easiest solution.
If it lets you run it download some freeware cleanup apps like..... SpyBot Search & Destroy Ad-aware by lavasoft you may get lucky and get rid of it... (Best option tho.. when youve been compromised badly like this, is starting from scratch.... format & reinstall)
you want to reinstall windows on to the computer and format the hard drive before you do that it will remove all files plus viruses then load the boot disk or files it will bring back all of the task manager and that easier discription 1.format hard drive with some kind of disk or file 2.i recommend buying a copy of windows 7 3.put it in the computer 4.turn it off 5.when you turn it back on it will load up 6.install it 7.get a thank you it will be cheaper using the boot disk that came with the computer
Also set your pc bios to boot from dvd drive or cd drive, with what ever F key works The import thing is to note the working drivers and download them, sound, graphics card, usb est... in device manger, befor dowing a clean install
If you put Windows 7 on his computer, you won't need any drivers. I did this and found it to be the most convenient OS in the world. I have installed Tiny 7 on countless computers and I have never needed a driver. And if the programs don't work, then like they said above, you need to install the OS again.
I am gonna try to back up all his files, plug it into my computer and clear out all the viruses he may have, and install tiny7 on it. Post Merge: [time]1265724185[/time] Actually, new idea. Actually he wants all the functions that are in Windows 7 Professional or Windows Vista Business. Will Tiny7 Remove all that?
