There's a blotch on the monitor from a magnet that I can't get rid of. It's nothing minor, just a barely noticeable green patch. I've used the degauss tool on the monitor but it's still there.

The issue is you are still using a CRT... time to upgrade to a modern display.

I would. But this computer is just for browsing and changing the monitor won't have many advantages. This computer sucks at gaming and is running extremely low on disk space. It'll probably be obsolete in the next couple of years or so.

Use the other side of the magnet to reverse the effects. Always worked for me.

I need to follow this advice someday as I am still using an LCD monitor when the latest monitors these days are LED based ones.

Or maybe I'll wait for when they make cheaper 3D Touchscreen monitors so that mice will be a thing of the past too :)

LED are still inferior to LCD as far as I know. I dont intend to upgrade from my 24 inch viewsonic LCD any time soon. I only got this because my 22 inch samsung died.

    They are?

The only advantage CRTs have over LCDs & with LEDs I think is that CRT's have more vivid colour reproduction, but the fact that they're still square (screen shape) is still a major let down considering most LCDs & LEDs are wide screened. Also, LCDs/LEDs have better resolution ranges too.

I believe led has an inferior lifespan to lcd at this point in time. it will undoubtedly improve in the future.

But it was one of those rattlesnake magnets that make noise when you throw them into the air. I can't tell if it was north or south.
