Hey i'm looking to compress some movie img files and I have a couple of questions about it.

    1. What is the best format to compress .img movies?

    2. What is the best program to use to convert and compress .img movies?

I'm basically looking to convert my movie .img files to .avi but if there is a better format please let me know. The format must be able to be burned to dvd so I can watch them off the dvd.

If anyone can help me with this it would be much appreaciated.

    Cheers :)

Converting them to avi (divx) would probably be your best option of saving the most space and still keeping an okay amount of quality.

Though to play avi video files on your DVD player, you will need a special DVD player with Divx support. Most if not all new DVD's now have this feature.

If you need anymore help just ask away. :)

Total Video Converter is pretty good, though I have found it does take alot of time to convert a vid. I hear Xillisoft is also a very good one. Though to use these for free you will need to find a key or crack of some sought to use it. Youtube seems to have some great videos on that sought of stuff.

I mostly use "Any Video Converter" which is free and isn't that bad to use. I'd look for it, not to mention it has faster converting speeds than some higher rated video converters.

.img isn't a video format, its a disc image. you will likely need to mount it before you can extract the video from it.

Try MediaCoder for converting it's free (GPL i think) and very good for all types of conversions whether audio or video files. :)
