That can be for use to me.
I love programming, so if you know a good free program for that I would be really happy.

Please, this laptop is so boring.

Also, it must be installable on an external drive.

    Current software:
    - DVDVideoSoft Free Studio
    - OpenOffice.org
    - Opera
    - HTMLHelp (Microsoft)
    - InstantEXE
    - RocketDock
    - Games
    - Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition

    Not too advanced, please.

    Thank you :)

To be honest, you shouldn't really install software unless you plan on using it. Clogging up a computer with software just for the sake of it seems a bit pointless to me, especially if you're going to be installing it on an external HDD aswell.

If you want a to do some programming though, it all depends what languages you understand. Different programming languages are coded in different programs.

    http://www.redmondpie.com/turn-off-your-notebook-lcd-with-one-click/

Very simple App, simply turns of the power going to your display and then reactivates it when either you mouse moves or a key is pressed.

Well, you should start with a good text editor in the first place -_-

If you're pro, you should learn how to use Vi/Vim. It saves a lot of time if you get into anything commercial. Or you could try Notepad++ , which is basically notepad with a lot of the features that programmers would need. Google them.

I want to try the software, then use it.
It doesn't matter if I do not know something, then I go learn it! :p

I use Notepad. Notepad++ looks great for me. I am no pro, so Vi/Vim doesn't come to mind :p

I was personally quite fond of Notepad ++ When I did Javascript. I'm not a pro, but the way it seperates pieces of code, and colour co-ordinated, was pretty handy..
There are more programs out there.

Why not look into Microsoft Visual Basic. It's free to download and there's lessons online that you can look at. If you want to take it further then you could buy a book that teaches you how to do different things.

If you're looking for something a little more simple then perhaps you could look at Delphi.

I heard you must burn Visual Basic and that it has an trial...
EDIT: Nevermind, the Express editions are free.

    Delphi? Hm. I Google it.

http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html Every little bit helps. (Useful for Windows XP, anything higher and you don't really need it)
http://www.getpaint.net/ If you aren't a image editing pro (like me)
    http://www.cccp-project.net/ <3
http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner Useful for quickly deleting cache/temp file etc. on your computer.
http://www.free-downloads.net/programs/Alcohol_52__Free_Edition IMO, better than all the virtual drive software out there. Never had problems with it.
http://screensnapr.com/ Very useful if you are taking screenshots all the time.

That's all I could think of that isn't on my computer right now.

Haha, this is an odd thread. Most programming can be done regardless of what IDE you use, as long as you use the correct compiler/interpreter. Personally I use Geany for most of my programming needs. The only things I don't use it for are C# and Java, but luckily I don't have to fiddle with that very often.
