If you are just curious, would you mind changing title to say something to that effect?

I live in North America and when we flush our toilets, it goes counter clockwise. Is it true that water flows clockwise in Australia. At what point does it flows straight down? Germany? England?

it goes straight down on the equator.

The Coriolis Effect, while real, does not work on the small scale. The whole "Flushing toilets" thing is a myth. It works on large bodies of water and other fluids, like oceans and the air. The amount the earth moves in the short period of time that it takes water to flow down a toilet is relatively small compared to the amount the earth moves as the water flows in a giant loop around the Atlantic ocean.

it works in a bath of water.

Not really, the shape and level of a tub has more effect than the Coriolis effect does. Even on a two meter long tub, the effect is extremely small.

Because think about what causes the effect. It's the difference is speed between the two ends of the body of water (or air) caused by the rotation of the earth. The part farthest away from the equator is moving slower than the part closer. How much of a differences in that speed do you think exists over the two meters difference in your bathtub?

I apologize for asking and hijacking your thread. I'm afraid to start my own thread just in case the mods or admin reprimand me for posting something that was discussed many times and I didn't do a search.
    Once again, I'm sorry.
If mods could remove my post in this thread, it would be great.
