Hi. I have an r4i and a nintendo ds lite. Im looking for a new flashcard setup to purchase so that I can:

    play ds games
    play gameboy games
    play gameboy color
    play gameboy advance games
    have rumble support
be able to defaultly load to the default nintendo ds screen before anything is launched.

Can anyone point me in the right direction as to what is the best to get to have the above features?

Well, to play DS games and GB/GBC games you want either a CycloDS Evolution or an Acekard 2i (the GB/GBC games require an emulator called Lameboy, which you can already use on our R4i).

As for GBA games you need a slot-2 (GBA slot) card. The best by far is the EZFlash 3 in 1 because it:
allows you to play GBA games (loaded from your DS flashcart).
    is a rumble pack.
contains extra RAM which can be used for the official nintendo web browser, and a bunch of homwbrew.

As for DS menu, I know the CycloDS lets you load the DS menu first, but I don't know about the Acekard 2i.

So to get all the features you want, you'll need to buy two cards (slot-1 and slot-2).

If you have any more questions, just ask.

P.S. One thing regarding the DSi. They don't have GBA slots so the EZFlash 3 in 1 won't work, and the CycloDS isn't a DSi compatible card, only the Acekard 2i is.

acekard2i is the best flashcart you can find!

Dude, your r4i could do that now, you need emulators...

    lameboy for gameboy/gameboy colour

And an ezy 3 in one will help with gba support AND rumble support...for rom games only of course :)

The load part...that's hard to understand...

You mean the ds main menu?

Just change the ds's own settings, turn off the auto, otherwise you need to be more clear...

But if you do want a change...this is the best :)

I don't know about the R4i, but the original R4 automatically bypasses the DS menu, regardless of what setting your DS is on. I assume they want a card which won't do this.

    ...that's dumb...

Could the setting be changed on the ds without the r4i in and THEN try to see if it works?

Never knew that-must be because it's almost not required unless you wanted to change your settings with the card in...

Frankly, that isn't a problem, just pull out the card when you want the ds menu functions.

You can do that, yeah, but it can get really annoying. And it spoils the aesthetics of the DS start up.

Regarding the gameboy titles being played on the ds with r4i, I would want all the functions to work for 2 player games as well (like linking to play a game that is for 2 players). I dont think the emulators do that do they?

So the ones you all mentioned, would one have to take one out to play the other or can they be put in slot 1 and slot 2 at the same time?

btw, r4i does bypass the original ds screen. I already have my ds lite to show the screen first before going into the game.

The only way to play GBC/GB games on the DS is using an emulator, so you can't do multiplayer.

You can have both the Acekard/CycloDS and the EZFlash in your DS at the same time because they use different slots. The way the EZFlash works requires you to use both slot-1 and slot-2. You keep the GBA roms on your DS flashcart and use a piece of homebrew to temporarily load the GBA game onto the EZFlash when you want to play it.

And the CycloDS doesn't bypass the DS menu, and I get the impression that the Acekard doesn't either.

ok. so for right now, forget i said anything about the rumble. is there a slot 2 card that can play the gb games just like a card that can play ds games from slot 1 (without the use of an emulator) {haha, sorry for the million and one questions :p}?

You have to use an emulator if you want to play GB/GBC games on your DS.
