I recently installed Linux on one of my PC's just to get used to know how to use it... but after it finished installing it says GRUB Loading stage1.5. GRUB Loading, please wait... I let it stay on the screen for about 20min, but it was still there, so I tried installing it again, but got the same thing, now it's been on the screen for about an hour and hasn't done anything, what do I do?
MBR or Root perhaps? My distribution of Linux (Mepis Linux) always works for Grub and suggests to install on MBR. Oh...and ensure that the Menu.lst (if that's what it is) has the correct partition numbers and loader thingys. Post Merge: [time]1265417327[/time] Dual-Booting may be another factor. If you're dual-booting with Windows, you need to install Windows first or else Grub will be messed up and it will probably lock you out like it has been. This has happened to me before. (Windows is picky if not first.) Well, I deleted Linux and didn't think about it and I tried reinstalling it, but it was messed up pretty badly...Grub didn't load at all.
It installed it automatically from the Linux install disc, it's the only OS on the PC, so it's not dual booting anything... is there a way to remove it?
Reninstall it, or use GParted to partition the HDD, but you can just do that with the linux distro. It's a live CD partitioning tool. http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=gparted What distro of Linux is it exactly? if it's OpenSuse you may have problems with it....or Hymera perhaps from my experience.. : /
it's Ubuntu 5.1... yes I know Loony is going to say Ubuntu sucks... but it's an older PC and this one runs best on it.... so I partition it to remove the GRUB loader? because that's what I want to do...
Oh...No..Not sure how to remove Grub without reinstalling the entire OS. If it's an older computer, try Mepis Linux. it runs find on older computers. Latest Mepis Version if you want it. I personally like it better than Ubuntu by a long shot. And it runs smoothly on older and newer computers.
It turns out it was a mistake on my part.... the jumpers on the HDD were in the wrong places so it wasn't reading them right... it's working fine now...
