if you are an american than you will agree that the word whom should be abandoned by us. it makes you sound rediculous and not many people can even use it properly. without the word whom we can reduce the overall number of words in the english language and thereby increase the level of comprehension among citisens in the U.S.A. . anybody outside the country is not aloud to abondon the word and must keep using it. that means you canada! if we catch you abandoning this word we will call you coppycats and push you in the mud.

I'm Danish an use whom when appropriate, what's the problem? Really, if you're going to steal a language, at least steal it properly. ;)

*Note: certain words are linked to the actual definition for the benefit of those lacking decent vocabulary skills

Anyone who is grammatically inept and is foolishly advocating to abolish a word from the English language (i.e. YOU, Mr. DanTman682) should seriously throw themselves into the wood chipper.

I'm an American myself, and I am insulted by this topic. DanTman682 certainly doesn't represent anyone in United States except the mentally retarded. DanTman, please feel free to get the fuck out of my country.

Dan.... I'm sorry to start out on the wrong foot but please shut up. The internet is not a place where grammar and spelling can be abandoned. I wouldn't call myself "offended" by this thread, but I would consider myself more or less.... saddened or worried. It you are anything but a 14-year-old child I fear for the future of my country.

'Whom' isn't that complicated of a word, it's just not commonplace of our country. The jargon of the US is much different than other English speaking countries. You, whom I worry for, need to download Firefox and the Firefox spell checker.... This isn't an AOL chat room!

EDIT: Hypr, please modify the language out of your post...

I've never been able to use 'whom' correctly - hell, I use hyphens instead of semi/colons if only because I can never remember how to use them correctly. But, then again, our English class has for the past two years consisted of less actual work and more pointless assignments, so I'll throw the blame there.

Anyways - I think I'll just kind of sit back from this one and watch it unfold... perhaps add a little music, grab some popcorn, and just watch the hilarity ensue.

People, you *entirely* missed the humour of his original post, I'm betting it was meant somewhat as a joke.

That said though, our [rules] state that proper grammar must be used to used to the best of your ability.

The fact that it was a joke crossed my mind, followed shortly behind posing as an American to make fun of us, but whichever it was it was annoying. >.<

Good. We don't need more people lacking intellectual qualities like Sarah Palin in our country.

Whom is often used in letters. As in, "to whomever it may concern". It sound more appropriate than "to whoever it may concern".
It is also used in figures of speech: "For whom the bell tolls", for example.
I see no reason to ban it :) .

I know that America isn't a perfect place. Far from it. But like ALL countries, there are good and bad things about it. Just because you don't like a certain place doesn't mean that you should demean or belittle it. I hear people say that children are our future.......I cannot help but worry. This post is for "whom" it may concern.

well if this was supposed to be posted as humor then maybe it should have been in the games and jokes section. Most of this thread seems to be blatant flaming , and certainly is not a debate. Not to mention DanTman682s constant use of txt/abbreviations.
