It's already September 16 & that means it's only a hundred days before Christmas! Well it's actually 99 Days, 17 Hours & 54 Minutes from where I am & as I'm typing this so Woohoo!

And yes, I know for some the Holiday is just an overly commercialized holiday, but there are still parts of the world where Christmas is celebrated with the family & getting together for at least one day of the year as the main point of the season :)

So for all of you as well as the Scrooges & Grinches out there.... Advanced Merry Christmas LOL!

Better start shopping for that perfect gift, while everyone's still not into the Holiday spirit ;D

Love how nobody gives a shit about Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Though thanksgiving is really an American holiday.

Either way, Christmas, yay. Two weeks of no school. (I don't expect any real huge gifts since I'm older and dad's job isn't secured)

Because Halloween ISN'T a holiday maybe? Or that Halloween is incredibly different/non existent from place to place or culture to culture?

Thanksgiving is so close to Christmas (for you Americans) and there's no presents in this time, so it gets overshadowed by Christmas. Sad part is, that Canada's Remembrance Day (think of a better version of Veteran's Day in November), is overshadowed by Christmas.

Well, Halloween does vary. In Mexico The Day of the Dead is a very interesting variation.
As for TG, ya. Us country folk always liked it because we see more of the people we actually WANT to be with than christmas, where we end up seeing EVERYONE. But it is practically christmas feast minus gifts and a fat old man with a huge sack...that sounded wrong...

It does stink though that Xmas overshadows practically every holiday near it. Still, it's happy.

A few decades ago, our country didn't celebrate Halloween despite the fact that we used to get American TV shows a lot back then, therefore we were "exposed" to what Halloween is about, but we never did care for it much until recently.

Also, Christmas is cherished a lot here in my country that even in mid July or August you'd already feel that Christmas is already in the air, as many people do start festing up, that is getting into the holiday spirit even if it's just the middle of the year.

Bah humbug! :p Naw I like Christmas and all, but it gets too stressful at times by the time its almost here I am more than ready for it to be over with. Seems all the really cool stuff comes out around that time as well and is also usually the time I am out of money, but at least my wife can budget money better than I can.

damn... its been a year already? how time flies!

Christmas and my birthday are so close that i dont like to commemorate those 2 occasions. I spent my christmas, new year and birthday on the school i taught... cause i dont like spending it on the house where bickering and people wants to kill you lives...

But yeah, Christmas is really cherished here... damn fools. Commercialism.

Hey nice info there deneel. It's good to learn about how other countries celebrate the season :)

    Here's our country's celebration...

And yes, even though a huge part of Christmas is commercialism, ergo spending, we do enjoy the season for what it used to mean. A time to be with family & friends & enjoying the joys of outdoing & bragging with each others' achievements over the past year LOL!

    Just kidding.

Christmas sucks for teenagers like us. Children get candy and gifts, Adults get laid and we get stationery as gifts.

    That sucks :p

Here, you could still get toys/games even if you're a teenager or an adult, as long as everyone you know, knows what stuff you really are into.

Oh & if all else fails, we get money so we can just buy whatever we wanted for ourselves :)

For me, I get nothing. Since I don't have any friends to recieve gifts from, and my relatives don't bother with me. All I do on Chirstmas is stay home and sleep, since we dont have much money to go out and have a good dinner.

This is where me & my countrymen differ from other countries when it comes to the holidays.

It's not entirely about having a mouth watering feast, a fancy party or even gifts to an extent....

We even have a Christmas song about it whose lyrics go by...

"We have bread & cheese & each other (the family) that's all we need for a happy Christmas :)

And the song is actually based on fact, you see back in the day (1700's to the early 1900's) most Filipino's never had a better life, a majority of the people were lower class/income citizens so no one really could afford a fancy Christmas, but still everyone would be happy as the season approaches :)

This "ideology" of expressing happiness despite bad times is still evident in the most of us (including myself) in this day & age.
