ok then i herd this from a friend. (and he right about most things) but here it is in a nut shell. if this law is real and if it get pass.
gamestop (or and game retailer that buy use games) will not be able to buy back games from people they sould too. meaning that if they sell x game they can not buy back x game and sell it.

to me this is bs once we buy a copy of the game we have all rights to that copy. (plz not that i did not say rights to the game only the copy that we have)
just shows you how the gameing world change from makeing game people like to people want to be greedy.

Never gonna happen, I have the right to sell my property and anybody else has the right to buy it.
Laws are there to protect people and for society to function, not to piss people off.

This has been an ongoing battle for some years now so it's really nothing new, but far as I have seen there is no such "law" in place or in the works and doubt there ever will be. EA pulled some deal with their EA Sports line to make an attempt for gamers to buy new copies of a game that includes an "online pass" but if you buy the game used you would have to pay 10.00 for said pass. I am sure we will see other such schemes appear later on down the road. It all boils down that the game companies/developers are pissed they don't get a cut of the used game sales.

Why should they get a cut? Rover never got a cut when I bought my last car. Im pretty sure the guy who built my house never got a cut when I bought it either.
Why should games companies be special?

Exactly. Its called right to first sale (new), not right to second hand sale (used).

The argument is where places like Gamestop sells the same title new and used and naturally people will buy the used one over the new one especially if its greatly discounted from the new price. They (the game company) views it as a loss of a new title sell when someone buys it used and sit and cry about it, then they get over it and start focusing again on the pirate that downloaded the new/used game.

So the very worst that will happen is stores will open a 2nd chain of used game shops.
The money available is huge, my local store has thousands of 2nd hand games, nobody will stop selling/buying them.

oh i hope this goes further to prevent sales of games. why!? this will be a good reason why you'd pirate as opposed to actually buying something. this will also be a good reason to stop gaming permenantly!

    That was for autocad.

Looking at the link, it's not a threat to resale games. One, it's a PC software, which you can't normally buy used in the first place, two, it's a digital download which you can't sell used anyways, and three, he signed EULA (or AutoCAD claims that he did).

When you buy a game used, you are not a custumer of theirs. In terms of rewarding the companies who made the game, I can't see how buying used is better than piracy, and from the developer standpoint, there is no difference, it's synonymous.

Buying a used game is different from a car, when you buy a used car, you expect the car to have miles on it and for it to have some sort of performance issue or you expect it to have bigger problems the longer you own (basically there's tear and wear with the car). With most used games, there's no difference from buying it used or new. Buying a used game that has a one use code (a la EA or THQ), is more similar to buying a used car since it does have wear, in contrast to an older console game, which seems like new when, in fact you bought it used. Buying the one use code after buying the used game is similar to buying a used car and repairing the rust on it or repairing something else.

Normally, when you buy anything but games used, you expect the thing to have decreased function or wear on it, which isn't the case of games.

I only seen a brief mention about how it "could" affect video games and EA doing their thing that we already knew, so nothing has changed its still just a rumor.

Ive never bought a game yet that wasn't scratched or the book torn or had been in a smokers house and stank.
If I ever buy a 2nd hand game in as good condition as a new one I promise I will pay you the same amount.
And 2nd hand cars can be in perfect condition, look online at used ferraris I bet you can find one from the 60's in perfect condition.

A lot of stores around here don't take the game if it doesn't have the manual and has an absurd amount of scratches. That being said, when actually playing the game, there's no difference, that's what I mean. A used car, most likely will not perform the same way as it had when it was first new.

Second hand cars can be in perfect condition and the price will reflect that. Second hand games can be perfect too, the price will NOT effect that in a Gamestop or EB Games.

Look for an immaculate game such as shining force 3, it will be 4 times its original value.
