Well, i own a old laptop and bought a new battery for it. well, it works fine. got 2-3 hours or more... it got a 2 month warranty from where i bought it but just before its warranty expire, about 2-3 days before the expiration, it just died on me. I thought it was just out of juice, but when i plugged the adaptor in it said it has still about 45% juice in it and is charging, but after 15-30 mins of charging, it still said 45%. So, i went to the store, and they told me it died out and i was to get a new one, or a money back if they cant find a new one. So, after 2-3 days, they gave me the new battery, so that means, no money back. So the new one works. but the owner of the store said, the warranty of the battery expired and if the new one died again, there will be no more warranty for it. After 2-3 days after i got the new one, which was yesterday, the new battery died again, and which means, i just wasted about 80 USD for the damned battery. and will have to run my laptop on the adaptor. and it damn sucks!!! i bought the battery cause i need my laptop as a portable computer, not a freakin' desktop. my only consolation is that i own a small netbook so, thats the only thing i'm going to use. what a waste of money!!!
...That's why I only use my laptop at home, and with it plugged in... Like a portable dvd player-batteries suck-but with the right settings-and care-they last loonger... -drain the battery before charging-and whe you do do it asap -use laptop on lowest power settings (low brightnes, etc also an all black desktop can help save a little power too-easier to calculate apparently) -avoid heat at all cost -don't play games with battery -avoid online use except for when you really need it However, with that said, sounds like your battery was screwed to begin with-it may have been second hand-they do that to screw your warrenty What play was this-I always shop at big department stores like JB HI FI here in aus-that way if anything goes wrong I make a scene-bad for company image-and thus serve me quickly and accuratly... And security can't do nothing if I haven't stole anything Post Merge: [time]1247730139[/time] BTW specialist have more power-if one customers gets angry the next guy will disregard him as a nut and the owner won't care much because they already have enough regular customers to support them-I done some research-but it is based on video game console and not computers-but hay retail is retail right?
yeah, i think it was not brand new to begin with.... fuck that store! if that store burn down, i would not be surprised. i will be upset i was not the one who did that.
Not necessary with li-ion batteries, only with nicad and to a lesser extent nimh. Better advise is don't leave it plugged in with the battery connected all the time. Also if the battery goes funny, discharge it completely and recharge a few times and it should recover.
how do you discharge a laptop battery completely without the laptop? cause it is detected by the laptop, but its not charging and its not using the battery's juice.
if its a li-ion I dont think you can, they're temperamental and need to be treated with great respect.
damned it! now i posted in the right section! this is truly a rant!!! it does contail Li-ion and when i press the button on the battery, the led is pointed at 50 meaning it has at least half of its juice, right? wasted money on something that should be donated to the 4th world.
with a new battery replacement you should of had a new warranty for the battery. why not contact the manufacturer and say you had it die then replaced and the new one died again, they should (if they're respectable) replace it, also tell them the store and the model number of the product as it might be a bad batch.
i talked to the owner about the new battery = new warranty, but he is firm in saying that warranties are for the first product, and if they change the product inside the warranty period, they warranty is not change and the first warranty still applies. so if the warranty is for 2 months, i need to return the product inside that 2 months. the first battery i got from that store broke down 2-3 days before the warranty expired and he gave me the new battery 2-3 days after a gave them the first battery and told me my warranty expired yesterday.. so thats that! Lesson learned, warranties are very important and if possible, get a longer one even if it has an extra fee, worth the money. Second lesson, buy from the original manufacturer, not the redistibutor, they suck and their only concern is to get rid of the products. 3rd, if possible, use a desktop instead of a laptop, just transfer any files from the the laptop to the desktop using a removable device like flashdisks.
Actually, because my friends works in sales, warranties only put money in their pockets. I think it's just really bad luck that you got some shitty batteries or he sold you a dead one on purpose. Mine finally died not that long ago and I've had my laptop since 2006. Sadly, I use my desktop as a storage and wirelessly transfer the files to my laptop. Always buy direct, not through a middleman. It's cheaper.
well, the battery worked for like 1-2 days before it died, the second one. but like you said, it must be bad luck, but it happened twice...then i must be really bad lucked on electrical products. yeah, i'll try that, but think the reseller bought the battery from singapore, and thats just what he said, i cant prove it. but thank you for the advice, i'll check the manufacturer's website. But it probably a impossible task cause its a old battery and it might a surplus from the manufacturer's warehouse...
if he imported it from singapore then chances are it may not even be an official battery. That would explain a lot.
then crap! i think these are the lessons in life that are not free, you need to lose money just to learn this stuff.... its so crap!
It could be worse, I had to get a new laptop, because mine basically gave up on life and committed computer suicide. All you have to do is get a new laptop battery. Anyways, most of the time if it comes from a place like Singapore or China, chances are you have a reproduction of something from here, like an imitation iPhone, and these rarely come with a warranty.
