For those of you who care enough to wonder why I've been absent for three days now, I just like to say that it's because my Seagate 160GB S-ata hard drive exploded minutes after my last post "Outdoor Games", for some unknown reason, damaging my motherboard as well. After I posted that thread, I went to the John to drop some bombs, then I heard this "Booming" explosion, when I finished my business & returned to my "Persocon" it was turned off, when I restarted it, it won't turn on again. My technician, upon inspection verified that my board was fried when my Hard drive exploded, good thing my RAM, Graphics card, LAN Card & processor wasn't affected by the mishap.

I might be offline for 3 to 4 more days as I still have no funds to replace said parts. Why the hell did this happen during enrollment period? GRR!!

I've posted this via internet cafe though, see you guys....

how ironic, I got home from university and my PC was having trouble booting, and after while it just stopped POSTing altogether. That was a dead motherboard too.

Damn, how unfortunate, hopefully you'll get some money to buy a new motherboard and harddrive.

Isn't there a warranty for this from seagate? Come on, a harddisk should not explode.

could of been a power surge i lost my gfx card and harddrive from a power surge

    Thanks guys! :)

yeah it was caused by a power surge, apparently my AVR has already exceeded its usefulness, & I wasn't aware of it.

I did got a warranty rebate as my tech dude brought it to Seagate's local branch. At first they didn't want to but my tech dude insisted they do an extensive evaluatuion of my fried HD, they did & finally gave in.

As for my motherboard, I really had to have it replaced, along with my power supply & AVR.

I won't be active for 2 or 3 days more, as I'm still busy with my subject registrations, see you guys then

"Persocon", that's what the Japanese call their PCs. Well I was fortunate enough to have backed up 90% of my important data onto DVDs, my ROMs, my MP3s, my South Park episodes & all my other important stuff like my research papers & client investigation information, again thanks guys

i'd suggest you get a plug extention that has surge protection now so you don't loose another PC

Persocon is also the name of the android PCs in the anime series Chobits.

Umm... Yeah, I guessed that's why you questioned my use of the term.

As I said, they use that term to refer to a PC, since the Androids in Chobits are actually high tech PCs the Author of the anime referred to them as Persocons as well.

The picture I posted was a Persocon. Stupid Tripod makes us refresh the page a couple times to see the picture. Or something. Meh.

your harddrive exploded and took your motherboard down with it?

was it shrapnel style (bits flying everywhere)

No it was more electrical, the power surge shorted the Hard Drive's circuitry, causing the needle to snap, the electrical overload passed onto/through the motherboard's Serial ata connector frying the S-ata controller chip

This issue has been dealt with a month ago & with the help of my tech dude, I was able to have my Hard disk & Motherboard replaced. Yeah it was a bad experience for me, but I was able to move on. And yeah, I had to replace my Automatic Voltage Regulator as well.
