    Hi,
My name is Aaron, and I have just joined romulation. Below is my reason why.
Here is where the unexpected part comes in. I am totally blind. I use a screen reader which does what it says on the tin. It can not read websites programmed in flash but it can read near enough all other websites, which is to say, most of them.

I love the internet, but one thing that's sweeping nearly every website now ais a thing known as the captcha. For those who don't know, if you go onto a site and register, it usually asks you to enter a code. however, the code is in an image, which a screen reader just skips passed. Rom websites are no exception to this, and my latest resource has now joined the fray, so it's time to change. This is why I've signed up. I will definitely look around the forum from time to time, too. Feel free to send me a personal message, I'm sure my screen reader can handle it, but just don't fill it up with what I like to call "text talk", just make it more like a forum message.
Thanks in advance, and I'm glad to be a part of romulation.

    WOW!

And this is one of thousands of reason's why we need to avoid text speech :)

Not sure if you can see emoticons though..so I sent a smily face.

Anyways welcome to romUlation , read the rules to the letter, and feel free to ask questions...

Speaking of which, what games do you play, not many of the games here are blind friendly, or those I know of.

    Hi all,
Thanks for the welcome! I'll give you all the scoop on what consoles i own and what I'm currently playing, and what I am about to play:
My main console at the moment is the playstation 3. One of my favourite game series is rock band, and for christmas I got the newest installment, known as lego rock band. I play the rock band games through memorisation. If there's some sort of gaming forum in here, i'll say a bit more in there. I also play the tekken series, soul calibur, mortal kombat, and some others. and you can't beat the classics like final fight, double dragon, streets of rage, and sonic the hedgehog. I could never get the hand of mario, I found sonic easier, but why that is I'll never know.

Hey Aaron! Welcome to RomU. : )

I hope you don't mind my asking, but were you born blind or did you become blind later in life? Sorry if it's a stupid question; it's just a bit confusing to me haha. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the games and the community here!

    Hi,
I was born blind. Everyone thought I wouldn't make it, and they were worried, but luckily, I survived, and I'm glad I di. and if anyone is wondering, if there ever was a cure for it, i would not want my site back, not at this time. I have adapted to the world I know, in the ways I know. If i get my site back, I'll have to basically start from scratch. I'll have to learn colours, how to read and write, and other stuff, probably. Plus, would the brain really be able to handle it? What if it sends me into shock or something? I hope I'm not going off topic.

Wow, that's a big surprise there. How do you listen to all the illiterates out there?

And... how do you play Rock Band? I'm curious about it :)

Oh and also, you know the captchas? Trust me, even if you have sight, it's annoying to have to always type them in. Anyways, good luck! Hope to hear more from you :)

    Hi all,
Wow, it's good to see more and more members welcoming me. This community must be rather large. To the user who asked about shooter games, it depends. When I had an old xbox I could play house of the dead 3, and lightgun style games, using the controler, as most of the time you could just shoot and the enemies get hit. But I can't play stuff like call of duty. The latest shooter game, if you can call it that, that I checked out is star trek DAC, although that's more of a retro asteroids style of game, which is slightly more playable, blast everything onscreen.
By the way, check the "gaming from a blindness perspective" in ther romline gamers section, because tomorrow, I'll upload a recording of me playing various ps3 games. Granted, there were some technical difficulties including my first ever ps3 crash, and guitar hero iii freazing on me for the first time, but aprat from that everything else went smoothly. Look out for that tomorrow.

    ...Wow.

Well, don't you have a program where your computer can detect enemies on shooter games?
I mean, for example, your computer will suddenly shout: "HOSTILE AT THREE O'CLOCK!"?
But, I guess there's no such thing as that, eh?

Anyway, I noticed that you don't know our usernames because we didn't typed it,

    I'm Haseo!

    Pronounced as Ha-Se-Yo. OK!? :D

I'm quite impressed that it's possible to play modern games with no vision, to be honest. They aren't really something that lend themselves to alternative forms of depiction (especially not ones on consoles), but all credit to you for not letting your lack of sight stop you enjoying video games.

I'm Loonylion (pronounced as loony lion), second administrator of this site and reluctant coder (heh, I try to keep programming as a hobby, but I've been doing it almost full time lately). I'm 23 years old and from England. Although blindness is something I can't even imagine, I do know what its like to lose one of your senses as I have been profoundly deaf for most of my life. I'm also mildly autistic.

Welcome to our community, I hope you don't have too much trouble navigating the site or forum. if you find anything that could be improved with regards to navigation with a screen reader, feel free to let Seph ('se-f' is the nearest I can get to the pronounciation) or I know.

    Hmm. That is pretty strange.
Playing games blind, do you think its more fun or less to not see whats going on?
For shooter games it seems a little more exciting to me, but whats your take on it all?

    Anyways, welcome to RomUlation =]
