After joining this site I have experienced an excessive amount of junk emails....I have tried blocking them when I get them or labeling them as junk but nothing works. I get about 2 or 3 an hour on average. This was not happening till after I joined this site. Anyone else experience this? I think I would need to cancel my account here because it is getting quite excessive. Any help appreciated, Thanks
What type of Junk emails? Just notifications of replies and PMs and such? Go into your account settings and turn off notifications. https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;area=notification https://www.romulation.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;area=pmprefs
What ever is causing the junk mail, won't go away by just leaving Romulation. They got your email from somewhere, and now they have it. I can't imagine it coming from Romulation. I can't see your email, so I'm pretty sure other users can't. Romulation doesn't send emails out through these companies, just from Romulation. Are you using a free email service like hotmail, aol, yahoo, gmail, etc?
I'm using hotmail, the only junk I get is the crap I accidently signed up for...which lead to more crap coming down It's not romU.
Yeah I use Hotmail and never had any issues. I guess its just coincidental that it happened after joining this site.. Thanks
Check the emails for an unsubscribe link. Those companies are some pretty big names, not some no-named company spamming you. They likely have a "click here if you don't want to hear from us again" type link. Or someone (or you) may have made an account on one of their websites and have an option there to receive emails. Have you by any chance applied for college recently? The college my brother went to sold his email address and actual street address to numerous companies, and he received emails and snail mail from these companies for a year after he left the school. (Apparently it was in the fine print somewhere in all the papers).
Hotmail is well known to sell their user's email details to other companies. Be wary of unsubscribe links, often all they do is confirm to spammers that your address is, in fact, live.
But real companies are usually good about letting users opt out. I used to get emails from DeepdiscountDVD, Amazon, BestBuy, Alienware, Microsoft, etc. about deals and stuff just because I created an account or purchased an item from them. (Their signups didn't have an opt out clause in them). But their emails did provide the unsubscribe, and they do work. Match and DirectBuy, while worthless companies (in my opinion), are real, and very likely would have working unsubscribe links. Unlike the "free cash" "make millions now" or "gold liquidizer" companies that are constantly changing their URL and have various numbers tagged on to the end of the URL.
Ok thanks I will try to look for unsubscribe links, I am always wary to click on anything in a junk email. I dont believe its Hotmail I have had hotmail for many years and never had issues. But anything is possible. And no I havent applied at any college...
