Sorta like the topic about prefixes below, do you think keeping a game's title in japanese makes it more interesting to an american audience?

In other words, would you be more interested in buying a game called "katamari damacy" or "clump adventure"? "Okami" or "Wolf"?

    Well....maybe.
But you can never judge a book by its cover.

....Though, I have to say using "Clump Adventure" as an example is not good; I think the word Clump being used in a game title would catch my eye.

Well, Katamari Damacy = Clump Adventure (or somethin like that) in english. Guess there are better examples. But how exited would you bee to see "Coming soon - Wolf! For PS2!" Sounds like a simple 2000 title.

From what I recall, both versions of Okami bombed, bad, in NA.

This might sound hurtful, so brace yourselves.

For a weabo? Yes they'd enjoy Japanese games that have had their titles retained when the game gets localized outside Japan. But for your average Joe? Hell no! Just watch game play videos of Japanese titled games on Youtube & more than half of whoever will comment will make fun of the game's title, especially if it sounds toilet humorish.

    As an example:

Just look at the bottom-most comment.

I'd say the same thing. accidental Toilet/sex humor is just funny.

Not like Katamari Damacy is ANY swears/sex words though.

Well, usually when american games are brought to japan, they are pronounced and named only in a more japanese way e.g. Crashu Banidicutu, Sonniku, etc.

But remeber the topic. I'm only talking about games that can be described as "japanese" by either being crazy like KD or have japanese story and themes like okami.

Plants vs. Zombies is wacky, but is it Japanese? NO!

    Your statement is a failure.

Also, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow had somewhat of a Japanese theme/setting in it, but it wasn't technically Japanese.

The "actual" definition of a Japanese game is a game that was never released outside Japan. Often the reason why games like these never leave Japan are references to Japanese culture within the games, or that the games uses characters that are licensed like anime characters & such. Another reason is that the North American branches of companies like Square-Enix or Capcom do not have enough balls to try a gamble. They immediately label a game that is "strange" for westerner tastes as a market flop even if they did not try selling it first.

Er. Weeaboo's wouldn't care less because they would still call it by the Japanese title.
