    What operating system are you using? Windows XP, Vista, or 7? (or an older one?)

    download and install this: http://download.windowsupdate.com/WindowsUpdate/redist/standalone/7.4.7600.226/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe and try again (32bit only).

    Have you tried going through the "Help and Support" center of Windows rather than the Microsoft website?

    Click "Start" and choose the "Help and Support" option.
    Under "Pick A Task" choose the "Keep your computer up to date with Windows Update".
    Press either Express or Custom, depending on how familiar you are with what updates you are looking for.
    It will check for updates, and then tell you what to do from there.

    You can also go to the Control Panel and check the Auomatic Updates section.
    I keep mine set to "Download updates, but let me choose when to install".

    This will keep you up to date, but let you choose to not install certain updates that you might not want.

    TirithRR: doing that on windows XP is no different to using the website, all it does is load the website in the 'help and support' window.

    You may have a virus or malware that is preventing you from accessing the windows update site. Run a full virus scan with your normal AV and also with clamwin (will not interfere with your normal AV) and also run a full scan in malwarebytes antimalware

    get clamwin here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/clamwin/files/clamwin/0.96.2.1/clamwin-0.96.2.1-setup.exe/download

    mirrors:

    Windows update client manual install: www.nodisposablemail.com/WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe
    clamwin 0.96.2.1: www.nodisposablemail.com/clamwin-0.96.2.1-setup.exe
    malwarebytes anti-malware: www.nodisposablemail.com/mbam-setup-1.46.exe

    it might be the connection virus that i found the other day that was strung together with my update stuff, so i might have a complete reinstall to do >__>

    omg im hoping not

    Edit: loon, is there anyway to mirror that to MU or MF for me since that link is not working for me

    the link works fine, so something is blocking it, presumably based on the filename.

    ok, loony, i found these when malware ran and busted them but clamwin did not pick anything up

    Code:
    Registry Values Infected:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\AppCertDlls\appsecdll (Trojan.Agent) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

    Files Infected:
    C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\Application Data\avdrn.dat (Malware.Trace) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

    but please if possible to mirror the update link to something else with weird file name to it, so im able to download and run it, if you wouldn't mind

    it doesnt do anything, all it does is fixes your setup so you can use the website.

    Linux is VERY hard if you don't know what you're doing...i thought i knew what i was doing, but still hated it...
