    and i dont think there is a guitar hero game that doesn't use the thingy

    There have been patches made to re-map the functions, to the keys on the DS. Google 'guitar hero ds patch'.

    there is kind of a guitar hero ds that doesn't use the guitar grip. it's called guitar rock tour.

    You could try Lego Rockband. It's the closest thing to a no-grip-guitar-hero.
