You don't really need to update drivers that often.
The only one that I ever do is my Video driver. And that one it's always best to go to the manufacturer's website and do it manually.

I know that;however, that still doesn't change the fact, that I have to update most of my drivers now.

no. There's programs that claim to do it but I've always found they make a hash of it (generally by getting older drivers not newer).

There is a program called DriverMax that lets you download 2 x drivers for free per day.

    hrm...

From what I seen my mates did when they installed windows 7 to my laptop, you just go to the company site and find your model, and grab what's needed...

You don't need to update often like trithRR said, heck before my format I hardly went near the drivers :)

the drivers windows update finds actually work in win7 (though obviously they're pretty minimal). Pre windows 7 they never worked.

My wifi wouldn't work via that method...so we did it by hand.

Infact 2 drivers were missing using that method (that and um...my win7 is cracked) so we did it manually.

In the end we are missing one, the battery...not that i use the stupid thing.

you dont technically need a driver for the battery.

...then we have to work out what the last driver is, everything works...

I found it strange how W7 didnt install proper drivers for my graphics and sound cards. It found nothing via driver update(it said I had the best driver installed),but when I told it to search on my C Drive,it loaded ones from there-which were better.
And I still cant find a driver that gives 1200x800 resolution for my ATI Radeon Express LOL

that will be because windows update only supplies minimal basic drivers. Its enough to make your hardware work, but if you want any of the advanced features you need the manufacturer supplied drivers.

I know that, what Im meaning is its funny how their seems to be no "communication" between my graphics card and the W7 disc,as they are installed(since Ive got to get then from the c drive),but not applied until I do it manually.I prefer the 1200x800 layout rather than the closest I can get= 1280x800,its a bit stretched looking.

All of the driver download software are crap. One even totally ruined my dads PC (downloaded an unsupported HDD driver), and he had to buy a new HDD.

I just go to the website and install it. Software Informer sometimes tells you if there is a new driver update available, but usually you can't download it.
