just been googling and found a guide to overclocking, it doesnt sound too hard. Is it worthwhile or am i just gonna bugger my pc? its a dell precision 370, pentium 4 3ghz HT and heres a couple of pages i found - http://www.compunamics.com/overclocking.htm http://www.devhardware.com/c/a/Hardware-Guides/Overclocking-Your-P4-800FSB/
you'll bugger your PC. P4s run far too hot at stock clocks an Dells have shit ventillation and a cooler that is barely adequate.
Overclocking is great for one thing: Benchmarking. Any prolonged use shortens the lifespan drastically of everything that heats up as a result. I've overclocked that exact 3.0 GHz CPU. It never ran the same again after that. The best way to improve the performance of systems with those kinds of CPUs is just to improve the Gfx card. Relays more of the GUI operations to the card, and puts less strain on the CPU.
