ipod not recognised

    i have the newest itunes runnning on an old windows xp comp and all it does is charge. it isnt detected by itunes or any itunes replacement. HELP!

    does it work, and do you have to do something to make it show up? my MP3 player charges if I plug it into the USB port, but will not show up on the computer until I press the play button to put it into USB mode.

    If it is an iPod Touch, unlock it.

    If not, reinstall iTunes, check to see if it works, and if it doesn't, you may have to torrent an old version.

    Make sure all connection between your iPod and computer is clean and fully inserted.

    I've had this same problem with a few iPods of mine. Usually it's a hardware problem that can only be fixed by sending your iPod off to Apple (which can be expensive). Or to get another part yourself and manually replace it.

    This is presuming you have a click wheel iPod (not iPod touch).

    thanks guys... i removed the passcode lock and its working now !! :)

    Sell the ipod and buy a Creative or Archos mp4. It's the best thing.
