Hello, Now for some background... When I first got my first wireless router, I set it up...incorrectly, I set the ip adress to dynamic and let it find it's self, the internet would drop out constantly when more than one device was connected. We called for help, and the man set the ip adress to the router...all was fixed, me, brother and mother can web browse all at once. Now it's happening again, new router, and I checked the settings of the router. The ip adress isn't set to static but dynamic, the connection type is "PPPoE", funny...because when I entered the crap on my router to my ps3 it refuses to connected. So with the "Encapsulation" ISP setting, should I switch it from PPPoE to static as a test? And with the ip adress, should I try from dynamic to static? And how do I know if my ip is really dynamic or not, it hasn't changed for nearly a month now.
Just check your IP address. If it's dynamic, it would change every time you reset your modem. Due to mine being wonderfully dynamic, when getting IP banned, hitting watch limits, anything like that, I just reset my modem and am right back in. If static works, then it should be a no brainer to switch it to static and try it out. Either way, if you can't fix it, you'll have to call somebody, so try to do the obvious things to fix it yourself first. A couple options are easy to switch back.
it won't necessarily switch every time you reset your modem. It depends on the lease time, your computer will always try to get back its previous IP. You can't use PPPoE on your PS3 as only the border device uses PPPoE.
Not once have I not gotten a changed IP address out of resetting my modem. I've had to do it plenty of times in a day before, and every time it was different.
