Well I finally broke down and started using IE8. It's OK so far but it keeps doing something that's driving me nuts! Everytime I click ANY link on ANY site it opens it in a new window! Please tell me there's a way to fix this?

Go to Tools -> Internet Options.

On the General Tab click the Settings button under Tabs.

Here you can choose what it does with links. "A New Window" "A New Tab In current Window" or "Current Tab or Window"

Seriously, Get Firefox or Google Chrome.

Well first of all for you other two sillies I've tried both Firefox and Chrome and I just plain don't like them.

Now back to you wonderful, sweet, Tirith. I forgot to mention that I've got tabbed browsing turned off completely and everything still opens in a new window.

get an IE theme for firefox then? IE does not display webpages properly, and is a security risk because of its integration into the OS.

That's pretty much the extent of my IE8 knowledge. Seems like there is a setting somewhere that has been changed that deals with link opening.

But you really should consider Firefox again. As mentioned, IE's integration into Windows Explorer is what makes it a security risk. Any exploits found through it can give programs access to deeper portions of your Operating System. I know it's different, but it is very customizable, and in time you will get used to it. You can make it do pretty much anything you want it to.

Why the hairy heck would Microsoft screw themselves over that way?! I mean they're both Microsoft stuff, If I'm remembering correctly.

microsoft have a very lax attitude when it comes to security. They've started improving recently, but IE is still riddled with security holes (so is Windows), but if they weren't so integrated then a security breach in the browser would at least remain in the browser, rather than giving access to the operating system as well. It stems from microsofts policies made back in the 90s when they were trying to wipe out Netscape and its taken them until now to realise that the internet now is thousands of times more dangerous than it was back then. Or maybe just until now to be bothered to do anything about it.

Oh swell! It seems like their left hand doesn't know what their right hand is doing! *throws up her arms

I'm having another problem too. InPrivate gadget has overridden my wonderful Ad Block Pro in my status bar. Could somebody please tell me how to remove it? The InPrivate I mean.

    It's built-in by Microsoft. It's a feature by IE 8, you can't remove it.

I think I heard something about being able to disable it in W7.

So now I have to get a whole new OS just to remove something?! I don't think so.

Well then, you can't remove it.
