Okay, so Firefox as much as I love it, is too much of a resource hog on my old machine. Any other browsers that don't eat up so much resources but provides "comfort" in knowing my Internet surfing is some what safe?

opera is supposed to be fairly lightweight.

IE is the worst browser in existance.

Netscape no longer exists, what was netscape became firefox.

    Safari is another browser.

I actually loved Firefox until I discovered Opera. I don't know why, it's faster for me, I love it tons more.

i doubt Google Chrome is gonna be safer than firefox right now just because its newer (i may be wrong) i see people running and getting google chrome just to find its bugs/loop holes...

Opera would probably be your best bet, though you can download a skin for firefox that has just the basics and it uses half the normal cpu load ... i used it on my old pc and it only took up 30,000 in my task manager instead of 80,000

I may decide to go back and try Opera again...I just really have to get used to it...

Chrome is probably best for casual browsers, security wise each process is separated so you're very safe from crashes from bugs in websites or flash.

It's hard to decide since, I've stopped using IE. I went to Firefox due to recommendations from here. But because the computer I have is really old, like 7 years old, I need a browser that doesn't eat up resources and I feel safe using.

here's an cool article about the various browsers it might help you decide which one to use, its only on performance not security

    http://cybernetnews.com/browser-comparison-internet-explorer-firefox-chrome-safari-opera/

i thought it was might be useful and interesting. the article was done a year ago, but the memory usage of the browsers will more than likely be about the same now as they were a year ago.. hope that helps

I went from IE to Firefox to Opera, and finally settled on Chrome. I find it's a bit heavier, but it rarely gives me any issues.

If only I truly understood some of that. And I've have Chrome crash on me a few times while on facebook or trying to watch a anime...So it's hard to pick one.

haha ok so basically from that article i posted you'll see that in the "-Memory usage test-" (the only thing you need to read actually sorry) that Opera is gonna be what you want, unless you dont close your browser after 25 sites in 10 mins then firefox is gonna be your best bet after that instance

Opera is most likely the one you want (if you just get online to check your email, myspace, and whatnot)

though i still recommend you try to find the "classic" skin for firefox and try it out it looks like IE5 haha but it does reduce memory usage

^I didn't know the skins you use on firefox made you use more memory. That could be why it was going super slow.
