i saw avg anti virus and i looks pretty good but to get the download and link scanner you have to pay, so is there a download and link scanner out there? (for free)

Uh no, that would probably be warez. Just use the Free version, still amazing and works great.

you don't need a download scanner, just scan files before opening them. Also a link scanner is a waste of time because it won't find anything.

I use AVG full, and I have the link scanner turned off, it really is pointless, and yes with AVG a simple right click before opening will ensure you stay virus free.

The search engine link scanner is helpful though, type warez in Google, virtually of the searches are dangerous. Obvious why..

mozilla usually tells you it is a dangerous site.

plus i have noscript which is extremely handy.

avg is ok, i'm using something else on my sons, his pc won't handle the avg8? and it has link scanner built in "avg free"

Yeah, that's what I'm meaning. Mozilla barely tells you it's a dangerous site.

just use "noscript" - it disables pretty much everything on a webpage, so you can view images/read to your hearts content knowing said website isn't secretly downloading stuff into your windows fodler

my son uses avast. free. seems to have less requirements that avg. his pc is older and weaker.

main problem with avast is it scans slower than hell.

Yeah AVG is quite quick in scanning, and it can remove adware, viruses extremely quickly. There is an option in 8.0 that enables you to do a "Fast Scan" but it never actually speeds up scanning.

his can't handle 8.0 so avast is faster and better than nothing.
I use "spybot- search and destroy" to kill spy's on both pc's. Best I have used.

The GUI and Interface of Search and Destroy is lacking though. But you don't really need it for scanning.

satisfies me, I use the advanced menu. 33,000+things have been immunized on my pc. bad, naughty, webaddresses. made by pathetic bored people.

I use Avira Premium. There's free version which works well, too. And it's come top in most of the tests by av-comparatives.org. Oh and it doesn't use a lot of system resources. One downside is that the updater is pretty slow.

problem with avast, they want you to update your free liscence, to another free liscense. every so often.

also watch out for that ie internet explorer. some virus hijacker thing, have to find hard to find program to remove it. think its malware something "to remove it" also i found combofix, used it once and kept it. nasty cleaning program with lots of warnings about how 1/100 pc's get damage from it. not sure, look it up. :) works great and takes over your pc kinda until its done fixing stuff.

i would say its kind of like nuking the bugs out of your house type overkill thing.

I've got several adware and similar like that, with random popups saying "download PC Doctor, most powerful antivirus on the market, free trial!" etc., AVG destroyed those bastards.
