What are some of the games you love that have redefined gaming history?? I'm going to start out with...
-resident evil 4-It was the first game to use press and watch gameplay...thats what i call it.

-LoZ Link to the Past-this game started the whole shadow and light thing.

-Super Mario. This game has a gaming legend behind it, who has changed gaming with just about
    every super mario release.

Final Fantasy I, Super Mario 64, and NBA Jam. Did anyone play any basketball or even any sports games at all before NBA Jam introduced the idea of Arcadey sports games instead of realistic sports simulators.

Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time.

For me, it opened up a whole new world of gameplay and introduced me to the genre as well as being a smash hit.

Final Fantasy is just plain Final Fantasy, If you ignore the impact that game had on the rpg genre including Atlus' Megami Tensei series, you can't ignore the fact that that game kept the Publisher alive to eventually produce Chrono Trigger and Cross, The Seiken Densetsu Series, Kingdom Hearts, and even Saga Frontier, all innovative concepts in their time.
I won't even explain SM64 because if anyone needs an explanation of the revolutionary game concepts that game provided then just put down your copy of Gears of War,turn around, walk away, and never look back.

Goldeneye007 - Seamlessly introduced stealth, precision and death match multiplayer to 3d fps. Had near perfect game design.

making people relize that just because there's a hit movie based on a game, doesnt mean the game can be crap and sell.

Point and set for Natewlie, you never said it had to be for the better though E.T. did have some positive impacts. Also Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation said it best about Halo, It innovated the FPS genre by limiting your guns to two.
p.s. Turns out Chest high walls of Gears of War fame are the greatest weapon ever invented by either mankind or any alien race.
