So my computer is 4 years old...(yes im planning on buying a new one once i get into univ.) and the antivirus i WAS using (F-secure) started to feel like a useless rock on my computer that scans shit now and then. Even with F-secure on, my computer got numerous amounts of malware and viruses.

so now im looking for a decent antivirus that doesn't take up half my RAM and actually FINDS the malware/viruses. Any suggestions?

Somebody asks for a good AV and you recommend that? lolno.

I never had any issues with Avast!, and it seemed to do its job well.

I used that before I used Norton...I am definitely not using it again lol plus the price is insane for that P.O.S. I'll try Avast. BTW is NOD32 any good?

NOD32 is considered pretty much the best around as far as I'm aware.

By the by, you may have to hunt a little on the site, but there is a free version of Avast.

Norton almost acts like a virus itself :S

    I second Avast.

The current three top rated AV's are:

ESET Internet Security or NOD32 - They're both from ESET.

    Avast!

AVG 2011 - Although AVG's been such a pain as of the 2011 release & most people even report it being a notorious bloatware.

Bloatware is "Software whose usefulness is reduced because of the excessive disk-space and memory it requires." Such as Norton and McAfee. :)

    Norton is probably :p
I third Avast if youre looking for a free one.
But if youre buying antivirus go with NOD32 then or kaspersky as loony said

And to add, McAfee's "web report" thing (sorry, forgot what it's full name is) is very misleading. I remember a former RomUlation forumer once said the thing reported RHDN (romhacking.net) was a site infested with virii & of course it isn't :p

Read this form the start. I dislike Norton cuz a year back I put on another antivirus and it found 7 trojans (and no cookies or other lame stuff) and Norton failed at that so no more Norton for me

I would not recommend any of the "mainstream" AV software. That means Norton (lol), McAfee (lol) and Kaspersky (unless you like being monitored by the Russians).

That being said, if you aren't browsing porn sites all day, there is absolutely no reason for you to need any anti-virus software. I would just get Spybot to get rid of the occasional adware, and that's about it.

F-Secure isn't free but I've used it for years and never had a problem with it, or with virus/trojan shit.
