I recently bought Fallout New Vegas (not with Steam, I hate it) and when I go to install it needs to use Steam, so I say whatever and install the sorry excuse for a progam and when I try to install New Vegas it automatically tries to update, this is all going fine until it reaches 26%
It stops, stays at 26% for a bit and then it restarts, it does this three times and gives up.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling many manmy many times, in different ways, I used to use Steam for L4D and it worked fine back then, but then it had the same update problem, I was sick of L4D so I didn't really care.

My laptop has been Restored to default TWICE since then and I still have the error.

This is absolutely no fun at all, I've looked all over the place for a fix but none of them have worked and I'm mighty pissed that I would buy a game and not be able to play it.

Honestly, I have had less trouble PIRATING a game >.>

    Shame on you Steam, Shameeeee.

Anyone know a miracle cure? I want to play New Vegas, My friend says it's some badass shit and I will love it....

I found this topic on another site where somebody appears to have had a very similar issue:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/14261-13-steam-update-problem-freezes

If you don't care about possibly have to reinstall Steam if something messes up (with all you've gone through, I'm sure you're willing to try most anything though), then I would suggest trying some of the suggestions in there if you get what they are saying.

I'm probably going to end up installing it and cracking it so I don't have to play it with steam anyway so XP

Well, the crack is out there. If you want a torrent with it, I have one. :3

    It would be useful ^w^

Shame there's nothing to install it off the disk without Steam, that would be amazing XP

Edit: I tried all the fixes (that I could understand) off of that page but none helped TwT

Huh, that should have been the required one to play it without Steam. Did you follow all the instructions and everything? People had success with it, so I would think it would work.

No, not the crack, Steam still doesn't work so I can't install New Vegas to be able to crack it.

I have a plan but it requires a lot of help from someone who can get Steam to update =S

First. Steam is awesome, amazing program, have it running 24/7. Best digital gaming ever.
    Now to get on topic.

Would you mind releasing your system specs?
Also, have you tried PAUSING the update then trying to resume it? It might help it move forward.

If NOTHING for you is working, try contacting Steam support, they should be able to help you.

Stealing your internet would have been my first solution Randy XD
I absolutely despise Steam, it's good for nothing and assume everyone wants to play games online. Well I don't >.>

Umm... Ok.... Where can I find my system specs? XP
