If I were to buy a Pokewalker...

    ...would it work with my HG ROM (or a SS one)? I've heard that since there's something to do with Infrared somewhere it might not. Could someone clarify this for me?

    No it wouldn't work, the games use Infrared, with the pokewalker

    Yep, you need a legit hg/ss game to use the pokewalker
