At any one time, my gaming. . . how do I put this, curriculum goes like this:

I play 1 story driven RPG, 1 pick up and play game, 1 music game and 1 platformer.

Right now, I have the pick up and play covered by Trauma Center : Under The Knife, the platformer covered by X-men : Origins, and the music game covered by Guitar Rock Tour.

I am now in search of that missing piece. The RPG. Now what's my taste in RPGs? Well, RPGs I finished lately are Mario and Luigi : Bowsers Inside Story and Pokemon Platinum. I'm into action RPGs, story heavy RPGs, or combat driven RPGs. Or a good combination of all three. I've been really begging for a good RPG experience on my DSi, but I'm having a hard time finding a good follow up. Who can help me? I'm taking in suggestions. :)

    Thanks.

    The World Ends With You

Nice story and battle in my opinion. :)

Oh yeah, I have those in mind, for HALF A YEAR NOW. I forgot to say that I'm using an R4i Gold. Those 2 very good games do not run properly on my cart. :( But yeah, I really wanna play them.

Any more suggestions other than those, please? :)

Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon, it's more tactics based but still has a decent storyline.

For Combat Heavy RPG, maybe Super Robot Taisen OG Saga Endless Frontier.
Action RPG, you can try any Tales of series, their japanese though. :(
For Story Driven RPG, the new Strange Journey is a good one.

I tried the Super Robot, I'm a fan of the generous amounts of chest, but not a fan of the gameplay. :/
As for strange journey, I can't play that either, no patch yet. :(

You seem to know your RPGs, any other suggestions bud?

Well I haven't played much RPGs on the DS.
Maybe you can try those FF for DS or Chrono Trigger.
Oh yeah, you can try Phantasy Star Zero for action RPG.
Or Suikoden Tierkreis for classic one.

Well, if you want you could play, dare I say it's name, Black Sigil! Apart from the game-breakingly high encounter rate, it's a really good RPG (quite SNES-ish)! There are cheats to lower the encounter rate and increase the experience gained if you want as well. But I really liked it (once I lowered the encounter rate).

I agree, although it is pretty much a Chrono Trigger clone in terms of gameplay, it does have an intresting storyline and well written dialogs.

I'd suggest Phantasy Star IV for the genesis/megadrive. It's probably one of the best games I've ever played but it still remains relativly unknown. Avoid the newer Phantasy Stars because they are quite frankly atrocious.

Disgaea is fairly good. Levels are short enough that you can have an attempt in a half-hour (but you'll probably need more than one try at some things), fairly nice gameplay depth, brilliant characters - the one big downside of playing on DS is missing out on the voices. Multiple endings, more secret / extra dungeons than you can shake a stick at. Exploding penguins are a gameplay feature.

For a taste of how much "extra" the extra bosses can be... The level cap is not 100, not 999, but 9999.
And once you get characters to that 9999 cap, you can then re-incarnate a character as a level 1 of a new class, with bonuses based on their previous level / class / stats.
Items can be levelled up, items have stat growth of their own that influences character stat growth.

I'm still on my first playthrough, enjoying it quite a bit and looking forward to my second play having the prinny commentary running.

Edit: I should probably mention that it's turn-based grid combat, not standard turn-based RPG combat. This leads to the rather interesting feature of picking up characters. Who can then be picked up by others. Forming a throw-chain can get you across a map in no time, useful for levelling items.

get ZSNES goin and play :The 7th Saga(really hard), Secret of Evermore, Lagoon, Brainlord, Secret of Mana, or Breath of Fire. (Breat of fire and The 7th Saga are turn-based. the others are action rpgs.)

All of these are 9's and 10's. Everyone should try these out. and these games have great soundtracks(Jeremy Soule does Secret of Evermore).

if anyone here has played any of these games tell me what you think of em. Other than BOF or Secret of Mana hardly anyone says they've heard of em.

I've played bit of Secret of Evermore although I didn't care for it. It's quite clear that it was trying to follow on from the success of Secret of Mana however it seems to somehow lack something that SoM had. It made sense when I found out that it wasn't made by the same team and was in fact made by Square USA.

In response to the OP's question, I would recommend the Tales series. Tales of Innocence has a hopefully soon to be finished fan translation and from what I hear, Tales of Hearts is coming along nicely.

ya earthbound is great. i played seiken densetsu 3, final fantasy 4. great games. and ya secret of mana is the best. Evermore and Breath of Fire are right behind it.

and get Breath of Fire 3 going. It's better than 2, but one is best.

Ya most people don't like evermore because it didn't follow SoM at all, and the team was different. I didn't like it at first either, but it grew on me.

it does have the awesome som fight system, good music, cool enemies, good story, an awesome magic system, and the a i is better. Give it a try people.
