I want to upgrade my laptop's video card from 64MB to 128MB<, but my dad tells me that most cards are for desktops and that getting to the video card on a laptop would involve a complete transfer of the motherboard or somesuch thing. is this accurate and what should I do if this is true?

Well, your dad is right. Most video cards you can buy are for desktops only.

Some laptops have a special slot for laptop video cards called MXM. I've googled and found this site. Maybe it's of any use to you:

very few laptops have upgradable video, however, if your laptop video card uses 'shared memory' then you might be able to allocate more memory to the video system.

    .

that doesn't help him or her much since they might need the speed, which memory can't help much and may need a newer card to support the newer features.

or they may just need a video chip with dedicated memory, as shared memory ones are much slower, to the point of slowing down an otherwise high end laptop.

Newbie1234: either post here or PM me with your laptop make and model, I will see what I can find out.
