i installed alcohol 120% and after installation i got like 3 pop-ups immediately after installation. what a f****** mistake that was. now i will never download that garbage again. i know i got hit with spyware and those other stuff because when your on the computer and just surfing the net, the hard drive light is constantly flickering, which probably suggests something is going in and going out. i'm waiting for the weekend to delete the computer so i don't have to deal with this s***. the funny thing is that i never asked for the spyware to be installed, yet it got installed.

Strange, I've never heard of alcohol 120% having spyware, though, I've always used Daemon Tools so I can't say really.

Alcohol 120% does not come with spyware, it is possible you got a 'bad' (i.e tampered) copy, or the spyware found some other way onto your machine.

Yeah, many "free" file hosters put spyware on the products to make money.

did i forgot to mention that i got the software from here,

    http://trial.alcohol-soft.com/en/download_120.php

if you want i can also send you the file or post it publicly on a free host like megaupload and you can try it out. either way, i'm not using alcohol 120 any more since it has that adware and spyware stuff.

ps, i already deleted and reinstalled windows xp and while typing this, no, and i repeat no pop-ups has shown up and my hd indicator isn't constanly flashing like how it was a week ago.

My first post... and it has to go to someone like you?

    Alright Mr. Ultra...

If you understand Alcohol 120% enough to want to download it, then you should have no problem in at least finding out what Spybot Search and Destroy, Norton AntiVirus, and the many other spyware removers do.

You reinstalled your XP... for what? Because your too 'lazy' to just find a spyware killer before-hand?

You obviously never heard of these programs so you took the time to backup all your stuff, reinstall windows, then place all your files...

So for something that could easily be replaced by Daemon tools, you choose to come here and denounce a program that many others use successfully after you "delete the computer."

I just came by to say "Good Job. Here's yer sign."

If you know enough to denounce someone you don't know for reinstalling instead of using a spyware killer, you should also know enough to realise that Norton Antivirus is useless...

I don't personally use Norton, but I did forget that Antivirus isn't always integrated with Internet Security and some other things they released as of late. Wait, hang on, let me reinstall my computer to see if Norton actually does anything.

Norton AntiVirus exhibits virus-like behaviour, and is not very good at detecting viruses these days. Stick with AVG free :)

That was why I stopped using Norton back in 2000. I recommend AntiVir Personal over AVG, but both are great for free software. Combine it with Zone Alarm and you pretty much are set unless you like to download off P2P.

Personally I prefer sygate personal firewall over zonealarm, as I find zonealarm slightly too heavy with resources for my liking. That doesnt mean it's not good software, however; and its considerably easier to get hold of than sygate, since symantec (norton) bought them out and dissolved them.

I have been using Alcohol 120% for YEARS and have never had a problem with spyware with it. As for Nortons Antivirus? Never. It's not very effective at finding viruses, and once your computer is infected you can't uninstall Nortons to install something else to fix it without pulling out half your hair. At the moment I'm using Norman, but that's only because I got a year of it free with my new laptop. As for anti spyware I use both SpyBot and AdAware SE. I used to use ZoneAlarm until I built a physical firewall but that's offline at the moment so I'm firewall-less apart from my router and Vista's slim support :p

    To sum up:
    - 120% = great
    - Norton = bad
    - Free virus set-ups = very effective

I think it's conincidence that you got spyware at the same time. Bad luck :(

    How about Symantec,it's good. ;D

    symantec = norton = crap.

Symantec is the company that destroyed norton, mcafee and sygate, among other once decent products.
