I have the answer to why MGS4 is never coming to X360.

    The answer:

    Mac product placement.

So if they were planning to port MGS4 to the 360 they would lose all their Mac funding. And it would just be ridiculous to have players collecting Zunes.

Actually one reason that MGS4 will never be on the 360 is because the game filled up an entire blu-ray disc. That's 50 gig. The 360 from my understanding is still using DVD9 format for their games. 4.5 - 9 gig at most. It would take almost 7 discs to port to the 360. That and the fact that having a 7 disc game would cost about $250-$300. I don't think that MGS4 will ever be realized on the 360......unless they cut the game all to hell and lowered the resolution, not to mention shortening all the levels and removing half of all the weapons. The 360 is limited by the DVD format and cannot compete with the storage of blu-ray. I'm not saying that the PS3 is better than the 360, just that it's storage media is.

I actually heard that they are strongly considering porting it to the XBOX. I understand your reasoning apophos, but I read somewhere that they have officially anounced they are thinking about it.

the DVD9 format is likely to let the 360 down more and more over the next few years, especially these days when people are easily sold on special effects and graphics. There will come a time fairly soon when the 360 just can't compete with the PS3 graphics wise purely because its storage media cannot hold as much data, and like almost every console before it, developers will have to start sacrificing elements for other elements. This is generally considered to be the end of that consoles' useful life. The notable exceptions to this rule are the Sega Saturn and the Saga Dreamcast, both of which died off for other reasons, prior to reaching the end of their life.

I know that this will probably sound a little weird to some of you, but I hope they do port MGS4 to the 360. I try to avoid "fanboy" stereotypes as much as I can. I have Mgs4 and I love the game. I want others to be able to experience the same joy that I have had with this game. (Even getting my ass handed to me in online play)

I used to have a 360, and I enjoyed it. One of the main reasons for getting a PS3 was MGS4 and the fact that it is a Blu-Ray player to boot. It has built in Wi-Fi,and not to mention PSN doesn't require you to pay for online play.

But all of those reasons are just my opinion. While I think that game exclusivity is important in assuring that game companies compete to put out the best product they can, I also think everyone should be able to experience an awesome game regardless of what system they own. Now do I want to see Halo 3 on the PS3.....in a word, no. I was rather disappointed with that game. At the same time I'm glad that 360 owners will be able to play FFXIII. I just get tired of all these system fanboys touting that their system of choice is the best because they like it better. About the only difference between the 360 and the PS3 is their software platform. Both systems have beautiful graphics, online capability, music and video storage, and both can play DVD's. Both systems are awesome in their own right, and price and availability, as well as game library size has been a factor contributing to the 360's success over the PS3. And I haven't seen a 360 game be less than 1080p. Just a handful of PS3 games are full HD.

All in all, at the end of the day, it all comes down to preference. I have my system of choice, as do all of you. I wish all of you happy gaming, whatever system you prefer.

I'd like to know why anyone would want MGS4 on the 360. After the shitty ass port of MGS2 Subsistence on the original Xbox and the laughably overdone Twin Snakes on the Cube, I'm done with MGS on non-Sony platforms.

Substance, MGS2 is Substance, MGS3 is Subsistence.

I also have a reason: the entire MGS saga has been on the PS series, why putting it on the 360? Probably Sony has bought something or paid Konami something so that they would only have the MGS saga on their platforms.

But the space is not a reason, even though the 360 reads discs with considerably less capacity, it could be done anyway. The GC reads discs with nearly 3 times less capacity than the PS2's DVDs, however many games have been on both, and the graphics were maintained (RE4, for instance).

Plus, if you're a fan of the MGS series, you wouldn't give a shit for the graphics. I would love to have a PS3 just because of MGS4: I really want to play it and know the story myself (it seems this is the last MGS with Snake :'( ).

I would have to disagree with the first part, it's extremely unlikely that ALL games for the 360 are Full HD. However, many games for the PS3 (a majority, I believe) are in Full HD.

I read in the latest issue of EGM that there is talk of making a MGS5, without Hideo Kojima at the helm. Considering the source we'll just have to wait and see. But without Kojima I fear it won't be as good.

A more simple reasoning why MGS4 isn't coming to 360... the series belongs on Playstation and that only :)
Look at it as Halo series... (exclude Halo: Combat Evolved) it belongs on 360. Some games are like symbols for their consoles.. like Super Mario (don't mind Nintendo ownin it and all)
definately belongs to Nintendo consoles.. It's just wrong to play Super Mario on other consoles (exclude emulators, always) and Zelda series too.

That's how I like to look at it :)

I find that very hard to believe.

Do you have any idea how wide games in the 360s are? Graphics, playable area, engines, etc. I highly doubt all this can fit into a mere 6gb game.

DVD9 dual layer hold 8GB data at most.

It's true though, some games use HD DVD which has a higher capacity, but is a failed technology that is no longer produced.

Fallout 3: 5.63gigs. Came out for the PC, 360 and PS3.
Oblivion: 6.01gigs. Came out for the PC, 360 and PS3.
Bioshock: 5.57gigs. Came out for the PC, 360 and PS3.

Don't give me that crap about "graphics, gameplay area, engines, etc" because if these better games can be produced effectively (and look their best on the PC), then I'm pretty sure that an X-Box 360 could handle Metal Gear Solid 4 in all it's terrible plot diarrhea.

the plot has very little bearing on the size of the game... Generally cutscenes take the most space, then graphics and other content. Plus there is elements that you don't see, such as AI.

bioshock is a short game so i don't know why you threw that in there and oblivion and fallout the gfx are not amazing so you've failed on your argument.

it is true as loony said 360 will be let down by its dvd drive as blu-ray does hold so much more potential, the only saving grace the 360 has is that it is microsoft and there for alot of the gfx engines are better and you can have better gfx in a small space and the fact that 360 has a better sales

but as game developers start to make games for the ps3 they will start to favor it in years to come

i'm not worried though all the titles i want will be on 360 and i can garentee that microsoft will have a new console or an upgrade the minute sales lag.

But Metal Gear Solid does have extremely long cutscenes. The game is presented more as a movie and a lot of the time you are listening to conversations and watching cutscenes. I think that's why people believe it is so huge. But on the topic of comparing, I just want to point out that Metal Gear Solid 2 is about 7 gigs, on the PS2. God of War 2 is over 7 gigs on the PS2. I highly doubt that Metal Gear Solid 4 is smaller than that. They obviously have some technology to adapt it and I see no reason why it can't be released for xbox. In fact (unless they have a contract with Sony preventing them to do so) releasing it on xbox would make them a whole more ton of money, and i'm sure porting it is not as expensive and they would make a huge profit. Like I said, I heard they are going to be releasing it on xbox.

yup, the game it self is pretty short, i'm doing a speed run on easy and i'm on act 4 less then 2 hours (skip every cutscenes and codec)

but Kojima Production them self saying that they push the blue-ray dual layer to the fullest, even with compression.

    http://ps3.qj.net/Hideo-Kojima-Blu-ray-doesn-t-have-enough-space-for-Metal-Gear-Solid-4/pg/49/aid/114921

    http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/02/kojima-mgs4-too-big-for-50-gb-blu-ray-disc/

read those artical and you know 50GB Blue-Ray dual layer is still too small for MGS4

That's about the only thing that I hate about MGS4, it's actual gameplay is too damned short. I have noticed a trend in MG games, the higher the number of the sequel, the less gameplay there is. MGS5 will be a movie and all you'll get to do with the controller is tell it when to start.
