WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Right now playing that Leisure Suit Larry game because it's the smallest game I could find to test its capabilities. Things I used: iPhone 3G BigBoss Repo to get iBoot and Android PSFreedom for iPhone 3G with both files OpenSSHed into the iDroid directory in /private/var And 7 hours of frustration, which can now be done in less than 5 minutes... And I did this all for FREE! Screw that $169 crap. Luckily I had EXACTLY FW 3.41. I knew upgrading was a bad idea.
I got a computer downstairs that I don't even use that sits there and slowly downloads all of my stuff. I'm starting with the smaller games first, then working up to the ridiculous 20+GB games or I'll just buy those... I saw that FFXIII is close to 40 GB, which I find is a smart buy...Totally worth the $60. Quite a few are between 4 and 6 GB so that's no different than downloading a DVD-R/+R DL movie. 12 GB is manageable, but anything past that is a long wait... I'm slowly but surely building a collection, and I bet this will be a year-long project filling up 1 TB of nothing but games. I'm planning on buying a 1 TB drive for the PS3 tomorrow and I seriously can't sleep. Damn internal installation only games won't be a problem starting tomorrow. Leisure Suit Larry was about 1.8ish GB. I saw some other games but I wanted a game that I'd actually play. lol Who wants a 700 MB random no-name game if you're not even gonna play it?
...I like being a trophy whore, sure I could buy another ps3...but nah. Good for you though, I'll just book mark this for later referance...
Also, I'd like to point out that they have a few hacks that "spoof" the firmware to the current version, and give you PSN access, but for me, I'd rather play it safe and not do any of that since Sony can easily differentiate the hackers from the nonhackers and ban your account and all purchases made, blah blah blah. And it's basically cat and mouse with FW updates from Sony, and being able to keep undetected with a new hack. Same rules that applied with the PSP, they apply here also. I'll spoof just so I can play 3.50 FW games. If I wanted to play online, I'd get myself a 360, get the subscription and play nothing but COD all day... No point in going online especially when you can install all of the DLC and game updates with .pkg files, much like you do with IOS files and .wads for the Wii. The PS Jailbreak stuff you see online is a way to downgrade your 3.50 FW to 3.41, but some people have complained that they've lost all BD functionality when they do that. I'd wait until they release a more reliable downgrader...I already play Russian Roulette with my car, the coffee machine, and my school's Wi-Fi. No need to tack on another... I feel like this is a pioneer era for the PS3 especially since we don't have any experts here on PS3 hacking. Lots and lots of uncharted territory here. And I'm definitely NOT volunteering to be that expert...
I was thinking about this, then I said no as I don't feel like downloading the huge, huge, huge game files. Along with potentially missing out on online play. nothx.jpg
Downloading 40gb worth of game would be equivalent to 1/3 of my potentially long lifetime. Nice going though.
Thanks I'd just buy the damn game if the rip is 40 GB... Or I'd go rent it at Blockbuster or something, rip the game and then return it.
Only a few games are that big, avoid mgs4, gow3 and gt5 (though gt5 shouldnt even work on a jail broken system, thus the delays )
I would have done this months ago if I had a PS3. And you can downgrade your firmware you know? And there is CFW for the PS3 as well. Not just temporary, but can be actually installed onto the flash memory of the PS3. I think that's simply amazing.
Yeah I saw the CFW. I've already had Murphy's Law go in effect just replacing the HDD. Not gonna bother something that doesn't need to be. And I was a lucky ass bastard that decided 3.41 was the time to stop updating, and 6 months later (now) realizes I hit the golden firmware. I know people are downgrading but they also run the risk of losing all BDROM functionality. Not my cup o' tea.
I would except most people will want more than just the method that I used, which is VERY specific to my setup, given with what I had at the time. For a decent tutorial, you'll need specifically an iPhone 3G (must be 3G, not 3GS) running 3.1.2 jailbreak using Redsn0w, NOT Blackra1n, access to Cydia repositories, Bootlace, which installs OpeniBoot and Android, and PS3 firmware 3.41, not 3.42, not 3.50, not 3.0x, not 3.1x, only 3.41. If you have every single one of those, then I'll write one, but the odds actually having everything I have mentioned with the right firmware are 725:1. For post-jailbreak, you need access to FTP to install a few things for some games to play, and preferably a nicely formatted FAT32 external drive that is capable of holding a game that is 40 GB (usually only about 20, but 40 covers ALL games that way) I can't really cover anything outside of that, such as using the TI-89 calculator to jailbreak the PS3 since I don't have a TI-89... That, and if you have 3.50, then you're pretty much screwed into buying something to downgrade with, and there's a risk to losing the BD functionality when downgrading... EDIT: I'm gonna experiment with an iPod Touch soon, and see how that works out.
