I got Linux Ubuntu from ubuntu.com and it's not working as well as I had hoped. When I boot my system to Ubuntu it loads Linux and then goes to a MS-DOS looking screen. Is there some command I should type to start Ubuntu? What should I do? Thanks, Devin Julian
I've been using various Linux distributions for a year or so now, and Ubuntu is still my favorite. To me it sounds like you accidentally downloaded the server version of Ubuntu. You should download the LiveCD and install from there. That'll give you a nice graphical environment right away. It is possible that you have some obscure video card that is not supported, but I highly doubt it, as you should at least be able to get a graphical environment going, even if you may not have 3D acceleration. Anyway, go here: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download and be sure to choose the desktop version of Ubuntu 7.10 for the appropriate platform. If you happen to be extremely scared of the command line (much like using cmd in windows), you could try OpenSuse 10.3, as it's supposedly 100% command line free. Personally I hate that distribution, but that's just me.
Well, exactly how long ago? They usually take like six weeks, even though the site says about 3 or 4.
Of course. I always buy custom parts for a computer, not a brand computer because they normally have the shit Vista preloaded on them.
