just wondering if you have 1 downloading will it go quicker than if you have 5 going?
stopping some doest seem to make any difference.
is it the more seeders the faster it goes? or is it seeders vs leechers that determines speed?

More seeders and less leachers means more speed.

One at a time makes downloads faster, but if the torrents have...say 5 seeds and 100 leechers, you don't really notice the difference.

is torrent download speed restricted by your connection speed?
ive tried googling and ive seen things saying the more seeders the more bandwith you have and the faster your download
im not even sure what bandwith is to be honest

Basically, your net speed obviously, plus the seeder amount, their net speed and what's being uploaded by you determins the speed.

With my crappy net, if anything is uploading, it slows the connection, so tinker with the torent program settings and restrict the upload speed, not altogether but just enough so it's 10kbs or less :)

restrict the upload speed to 80% of your connnection upload speed. Any higher and the upstream will be saturated, which in turn will choke download speed.
