http://www.humblebundle.com/ Pay what you want for 5 DRM-free games. The list includes VVVVVV, Cogs, Crayon Physics Deluxe, Hammerfight, and And Yet it Moves. The money you spend will be donated to charity and the developers. You can choose to distribute the money however you like. You can also redeem the games on Steam and Desura. All of these games work on Linux, Mac, and Windows. However, unlike last time, they don't provide the source code and soundtrack.
Strangely i doubt those games would be worth the 50 dollars it assumes they are. Wonder if i can pay 0 bucks. Nope i can't darn
VVVVVV is worth money, I know that much. But I already brought it on Steam a while back =/ EDIT: Okay, Notch paid 4k for it the rich motherfucker. Although his twitter says it was an accident. All for charity though. The notoriously tight pirate Devon-chan is considering this proposal.
And Yet it Moves is a bit annoying. The foreground and background elements look just like the platforms meaning it's hard to tell whether you're about to jump down a hole or trying to climb a hill. Cogs is an interesting game, but some of the challenges are annoying. There's one early on where you have to sync one bell with another which requires a ton of trial and error. I bought another copy for myself just so I can use the friends feature on my other steam account.
I can safely say that VVVVVV is very good, so is Cog. I think I'll put in $15 on this. Post Merge: [time]1311962681[/time] I have no idea how to play Hammerfight. It's got really awkward controls.
VVVVVVV was ported from flash to c++ and now it has a level editor and a level sharer. Notch made a level pack for it. Cogs is a neat game, but the timing levels bug me, even though they're easy. The whole steampunk style is really nice and the developers put a lot of effort into it. Crayon Physics might be fun if you're extremely bored, but there's already a free sandbox game called Phun. Most of the levels in Crayon Physics can be solved with one object and the ball rolls across 3/4 of the level if you put a tiny ramp under it. VVVVVV is an excellent game and you should definitely buy it. It doesn't use the traditional level system and you can choose many paths. I believe you can program your own things in VVVVVV. Not sure if that's true. Hammerfight is a game that I haven't really tested out. I've played around four levels and kind of neglected it. I will pick it up later though. The controls are really hard to pick up but it's satisfying once you absolutely wreck another boiler with one swing. And Yet it Moves really bothers me in all sort of ways. The sounds are annoying, the background and foreground objects blend in with the layer that you're running and jumping on, so it looks like you're jumping down a hole when you're really just running on a flat surface, and the animation sucks. There's really nothing interesting about the art. They have a cool trailer for the wii though.
Now you get a free trial of Minecraft, and steel storm: burning retributions. If you also bought the humble bundle before yesterday, you get the five games included in the previous indie bundle, which were Braid, Osmos, Commander Cortex, Machinarium, and Revenge of the Titans. You can also get the last five if you donate above the average amount.
