How to play roms on dsi?

I've looked all over the internet for a way and all I ever found was "It's impossible." I KNOW it's not impossible, and I even tried once, but on the dsi the rom had no icon and had question marks and glitchy symbols for a name. Is there any way (without a flashcard or Acekard) to successfully play a rom?

Unless you know how to hack a DSi like the Wii.

Is there really a DSi equivalent to the Homebrew Channel?

It took a while to hack the Wii, but don't get your hopes up because the 3DS is more tempting than the DSi.
