The brand of my router is EDIMAX and it currently has WPA2 security put on it. I want to take it down to WPA, so that I could go on Nintendo WFC. How exactly do I do this? Please and thank you. :) There is a reset button behind it, but I'm not exactly sure what it does. Help will be appreciated ASAP. Thanks.

you need to log into the configuration pages and it will be under 'wireless' or 'security' or something like that. It varies between brands.

How do I log into said config pages? If I recall correctly, I saw our technician do this: DSL MODEM -> ROUTER -> LAN CABLE INTO ROUTER INTO LAPTOP. Then from there, I think he typed into the address bar the IP address of the router. Is that how? If only I can get into that page to see the settings, I'd be golden.

yes, typing the router IP into the browser is how you get there. You may need a username and password.

It won't work if I try to access it with a WLAN connection? I have to actually be connected through a cable? and where can this username and password be found? One last, will pressing the reset button on the router remove the WPA2 protection?

whether it works on wlan or not depends on the router, but if you're going to be messing with the wireless settings its more sensible to be using a cable at the time. The password should have been given to you by the technician, unless he didnt change it from default, in which case you will find it in the router documentation or on the internet (googling 'edimax xyz default password' where xyz is the model number will find it).

The reset button will reset the entire router to defaults, so what changes that makes to the wireless settings depends on what the defaults are. I strongly suggest you don't do this unless you know what all the settings are currently set to, because you'll have to reconfigure the router from scratch. However it will also reset the password to default.

Can you not view wireless properties->security or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.2

Would going through "Wireless properties -> Security" then changing from WPA2 to NONE remove the WPA2 protection? I dont think its as simple as that, but correct me please, if it is.

no, it will stop your laptop/computer using WPA2 encryption, rendering it unable to connect to the network.

Making things for me worse, not even fixing the current problem. Good thing I haven't done that.

I used to get into my wired router with 192.168.1.1(if wired in ethernet) and 192.168.1.2(if via usb)then use admin for username and password. Now my wireless router goes straight into the settings when i use 192.168.1.1 but I change my security level in the properties of network settings, but I think my network key is the original sent from my ISP.....
