    Stuck on how to add themes/skins to your R4? You've come to the right place.

    Step 1: Downloading themes/skins

    Tired of the old default R4DS skin? Want a change?You're going to need to download some usermade skins, preferably off NDSThemes.
    Once you've found the one you want, it'll be archived up, don't extract them just yet.

    Step 2: Installing the themes

    Connect your MicroSD to your computer, and then browse to this directory;

    _system_ > themes. Then there should be 12 folders in themes, labelled theme01, theme02, theme03 etc. and so on up to theme12. You can only have 12 themes on at one time. If there are no theme folders, create them, making sure they are named correctly. Now, drag one of your theme archives, .zip, .rar, etc. and place them into one of the theme folders, starting off with theme01 and so on depending on how many themes you have. Then extract them. Don't know how? Go here.

    You should have these files.

    * logo.bmp - Background of the Top Screen of startup.
    * icons.bmp -- Background of the Bottom Screen of Startup.
    * bckgrd_1.bmp -- Background of the Top Screen of Explorer.
    * bckgrd_2.bmp -- Background of the Bottom Screen of Explorer.
    * theme.ini -- You most likely would have got this as well, just the configuration like what text colour to use etc.

    Do not change any of the filenames. If you do, the R4 firmware won't know what to do with them, thus it won't work or appear.

    There, you have installed the themes on your MicroSD, now boot up your R4DS and see what happens.

    Step 3: Changing skins

    If you did it correctly, the current theme you have on your R4DS should be the same theme in the folder theme01. If you installed other themes, click Select and they should change accordingly by each number in a row. Then just click Select again and again to return to the previous theme. This means you successfully installed themes on your R4DS!

    The old method was just to put the pictures straight in the _system_ folder. Problem with this was you could only have one theme at a time, and you had to keep overwriting the previous theme's picture files to change them.

    Happy theming!
