hi i was wondering if anyone could help me, i have noticed that you can download n64 roms and was wondering how you can get them to play on n64, do you need some kind of device as i have researched something called a doctor v64... can anyone clear this up for me please.... shell
Re: n64 well being as how the 64 is a pretty old piece of hardware i do not believe there are any r4 like carts for it. these roms are generally for emulation and there are several good working n64 emulators for pc that are free, i use project 64 and it works for me though i dont know how the others compare. an n64 emulator will generally run on any pc faster than 700mhz with at least half a gig of ram. i dont know how well multiplayer would work on an emulator but for single person games they work great i am pretty well into zelda right now and loving it
Re: n64 Yes, just like with DS ROMs where you use flashcarts to load ROMs onto an actual DS, in order for you to play N64 ROMs on real N64 hardware you need something called a "game copier/loader" & Doctor V64 is an example of it. Here's a wikipedia page that explains what it is & how you use it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_V64
if you want to play back-ups on your n64, you'll need to spend a lot of money. i'm thinking of like $200+ and it depends on rather it will be on a 256mbit capable or a 512mbit capable. it's expensive because these are no longer in production and are rare [they are from the late 90's]. there are people who are making some sort of development like those from neo flash. but they haven't made any releases or rather altered version of the device. there is however an snes flash cart. it'll cost you about $110 before shipping. it'll have the chip, programmers card reader/writer and cartridge case. i believe the best solution is to either buy an xbox and mod it [soft or hard] and install the emulators. or you can simply buy a wii and buy n64 games.
