The best PSX emulator by far is ePSXe, http://www.epsxe.com/, the default plugins are okay, but best to use one's such as Petes OpenGL for Video, Eternal SPU for Sound, and you don't really need to worry about the CD plugin. The best bios is scph1001.bin (google). If you run into any problems, post them here. If you're looking for a simpler option, try pSX emulator.

Just some tips; Anandjones already answered the question well.

If your pc runs the games decently, you should invest in a USB to Playstation Gamepad convertor. When used with an original PSx or PS2 controller, it makes the games alot more enjoyable.

Also, if you're planning on playing really big games like Final Fantasy, you might want to burn the game iso's onto CD and play them to save space, but that's only if you don't have a decent hard drive, because it will take longer to load I think.

HI i got the plug ins you advised but when i click on epsxe.exe it wont run and pops the message up zlib1.dll was not found therefore failing to start..what does that mean?

it means you need to google for the file 'zlib1.dll', download it and put it in the ePSXe directory.
