new super mario brothers wii came out on sunday [11-15-2009] and there is very little attention from the media. yet when call of duty 6 modern warfare 2 was released there was so much media attention. why is that?

Mario don`t need any media-presence at all to sell like hell, don`t you think. ;)

Yeah, Nintendo is smart, why would they waste money on commercials, when the game will sell well anyway, huh?

because mario isn't something the media can stir up trouble about. Why would they have any interest in it?

The only drama regarding NSMBW was the Super Guide. Now that we know that it's entirely optional and multiplayer is pretty smoothly handled, there's nothing to bitch about.

If there isn't a huge ad campaign or drama among gamers, there's no reason for the media to make a big fuss about it. Also, Mario is synonymous with "gaming". He doesn't NEED advertising to sell.

I've been seeing commercials on TV for NSMBW, but no more than I see Dragon Age or other "hot" games for years end.

I think its just a remake, like GOW Collection. So media does not need to make it big.
Although MW2 is one of the best games ever made, it sold 5M+ Units at day 0 and what did you expect?
If it gets your nerves that much, you should stop reading IGN, Gamespot or so. Becouse everyone is talking about MW2 now.

Edit: And I think I was harsh a lil, but lets admit. MW2 is way more "important" to most of "us" .(not us maybe, but...)
Edit 2: MW2 sold over 8M, sorry for outdated information.

NSMB Wii is far from a remake. It has all-new, never before played content, a new concept in platforming (what other platformers have been 4 player co-op? Closest I can think of is Chip n Dale on the NES, which was 2), and a new feature that helps casuals without alienating the hardcore.

MW2 got a lot of attention due to the server fiasco and because it's OMG FPS #736762756 guns n shootin' n military n IT'S LIKE A MOVIE.

As fun as LBP is, the platforming left a lot to be desired.

Maybe because they want something new? Mario is kinda getting old and COD is just the beggining.

zerobahamut: Are you aware that MW2 is like the 6th game on consoles?

MW2 is hyped because it's been done for those people who can be easily swayed by it: male 360 users who spend hours on XBL playing multiplayer. Same as Halo 3. It's the online multiplayer content that brings up hype, as well as the "PEW PEW GUNS BOOM HUR HUR HUR NUB" subject matter of any FPS these days.
