Your probably familiar with the phrase "HONESTY is the best POLICY" from your elementary years, but have you ever thought if it really is for the best? Your parents tell you never to lie, but you see them do otherwise. When you do something stupid and tell your friend, they tell you it was'nt that bad even if it was. When you feel dissapointed when your friends dont fulfill their promises, you just tell them its ok even if you want to pound for being so damn incompetent. Does honesty really pose for good?...considering the mentioned statements, it undermines patience, humility, and kindness. I read this very interesting phrase or can it be considered an adage. "Those who don't know how to lie maybe good individuals, but those who refuse to lie just dont care about the feelings of others" What do you guys think?
in most cases honesty is the best policy, and overall it always is. for individual events it depends on the situation.
Though we live in harsher times where people are at each others throats, I do believe that honesty is indeed the best policy. Even if the truth can hurt, it is still best to be honest & truthful.
true that, and once you lie, you'll lie again, and again, and again, and you found yourself living in a life filled with lies
Well, if you actually put some logic into the lie, and are not forgetful about what the lie you have told recently, then chances are you might get away with it. I know I have several times :-X
Being an honest person myself i constanly see people that are not honest and get very frustrated with those individuals I believe that being too honest is bad but being too much of a lier is also bad My point is that its best to look at the situation and then decide
just remembered a phrase from the script of a series called "SHARK" The truth is relative, pick one that works This could mean that being honest does not necessarily mean doing the good thing. and such would mean that the truth is never absolute.
like when you lied to your sister that your pet "ran away"? happened to me once, didn't work (perhaps it's the fact that her pet is an eagle. no, i'm not lying, it was legal at that time)
well i think lying takes a variety of forms like sensitivity, sympathy, pity, and guilt. Hell even kindness can become a form of lie. But what does it matter? as long as everyones happy thats all that matters. damn..cant believe this thread is revived.
someone watch Liar, Liar recently? anyway i am honest 99% in real life..... but cant say the same while on net....especially in MMO "IF you know what i mean" =P
Erm... I posted the same thing twice... Emphasis Anyways, Honesty is needed in life, I mean would you want to live your whole life thinking you weren't a human?
Honesty is vital, in regards to interpersonal relationships and (more importantly) with yourself. The truth, however bad it is, is always better to hear than the lie.
I wouldn't say it is always better. Its one reason why adults have a difficult time answering a popular inquiry of children: "Where do babies come from?".
