64 bit architecture is backwards compatible. Your problems are likely down to the fact you are running windows vista or 7, both of which had most of their dos environment removed. You can try windows 95/98 compatibility mode (right click the .exe file, then go to properties, then go to the compatibility tab) or a program like dosbox.
I have posted this question before and nobody replied. I think it is possible when you use a virtual machine. (not the THINK verb)
hmm well it crashed on dosbox lol the warcraft 2 won't allow an install apparently crashed on dosbox as well .
what can i do if i cant even run an install to access the exe for use... and i duno if it matter but i am using a legit original disc.
you could try setting up a VM (if you're using windows 7 professional or ultimate, microsoft provides a free 'xp mode' download, which is basically a vm running XP professional) or dual booting with xp. Or a separate (older) computer with xp or windows 98 on it.
hmm im on win vista,,, i do have an older computer with win xp but it isnt working right anymore, i actually has a topic on that one months ago... the one about comp with blue screen of deathing and i was told it sounded like a memory instability... i tried the reseating and it didnt really work.. so its sitting in closet atm gathering dust lol
You may want to try to ISO. I have Warcraft II Battle.net edition (legal copy, I saw in once in a toy shop for €1 (1,3 dollar) and I bought it. It is the game with all the expansion packs. I works okay... not perfectly on my i3 64bit machine.
Sorry to hijack this thread, but the part I highlighted is kind of worrisome for me. If I understood what loony said correctly any & possibly all DOS based programs might not run with Vista &/or Win7 & probably Win8 as well? So will this mean ROM Editing/fixing tools like SNESTool & ucon64 might no longer work on these newer OSes? If so, oh crap! I still need those!
memtest 86+ does not involve your operating system. As long as the system is actually capable of booting it will run.
@Loony Do you mean the memtest that you enable from the setup while the computer booting? cause i tried that but don't really know what I'd be looking for as far as the trouble goes...i do know that sometimes after the freeze crashing, one of the linked drives C:\ and D:\ are linked for more space ,, the D:\ drive fails to register as being added,, turning comp off and waiting a bit fixes that though.. i tried disconnecting the D:\ drive but one of two things happens ... either the C:\ won't load properly or it will but run like before... that is at a crawl,, even opening my computer takes 5-10 mins and it will still inevitably freeze crash.
no. Memtest86+ is a bootable cd that runs its own OS from the CD. You burn the cd, put it in the computer, tell the computer to start from cd (may not be necessary) and it loads and immediately starts running memory tests.
