Jimi Playing the American National Anthem and adding osunds of bombs, guns, screams and agony to the song,is proberly one of the most strongest messages any man has created (IMO)......i mean its just beyond belief this performance......

Hey MitsukaiXxX. I'm a fan of Hendrix, and I know what you mean, but i don't agree. What you hear as guns, agony etc I hear as an awesome guitarist who has taken way, way too many drugs and entirely lost his grip on both technique and reality. Don't get me wrong- I love it but i don't hear what you hear. Wish i did. I think it's a shame that a lot of Jimi's later performances were blighted by bum notes and compromised technique (due to substance abuse) but, that said, some of his greatest work came from that period so i guess you gotta take the rough with the smooth. Without Jimi there would be no Stevie Ray, no Eddie Van Halen, no Marty Freidman...the list is endless i s'pose. I should add that I have been told (many times) that I focus way too much on technique and sometimes I entirely miss the point of what I'm hearing. :)

Arrgghhh its a shame you hear it diffrently to what i do......
Maybe you should focus on the feeling a bit more, thats what i do.....Listen to B.B. King,he is'nt technical at all,but the licks are Magical....He can play more with 3 notes then any other guitarist can do with 300....lol.....

Hendrix was always experimenting with sound, and effects....from the army he wa obsessed with making weird and strange noises.....also doing things that other people wernt with the electric guitar.....in a way he worte the electric guitar for modern music.....

Yeah i agree the drugs did make some bad performances.......but they also made the best.....lol...

Listen to machine gun, when he was in band of gypsies(fillmore east version)....yet again he is making some agonising noises of screams, bombs, helipcopters etc etc...and the drummer(Buddy Miles) is making sounds of machine guns etc etc...

Even though he wasnt techinal with note for note......he was technical in terms of the stuff he did.....

There will always be another SRV,eddie van halen....but there will never be another Hendrix....the man was possesed, like from another world :)

Listen to B.B King too :)

I do have some B.B. King stuff and I do enjoy listening to it :). You're right about Jimi: the man was an innovator. He was a rare talent, the kind that only comes along every few generations. I enjoyed hearing some of his earlier jazz stuff.....not generally my cup of tea but there's just something about the way he played it....well you know what I'm saying.
I also really like Buddy Guy. Is he still alive? What a guitarist :)
