Hi Sorry all Newbie here... Contemplating buying the r4 package to be able to download games for my sons......Just registered on here and have been looking at the dsroms games but cant figure out what all the lettering means after the games.. Can anyone point me in the right direction here or point me in the direction of a site where i can get free downlaods from many thanks
single letters in () indicate the region of a game, for example (J) is Japan, (U) is North America and (E) is Europe (there are others, (D) is Germany, for example, but they are less common). Names in brackets e.g (XMS) are the name of the group that dumped (=extracted the rom data from the cartridge) the rom, with the exception of (iND), which means an individual not associated with a release group. We would not reccomend the R4 any more, the original is retired and no longer updated, and there are such a huge number of clones using the R4 name that it can be very difficult to get support for the one you have, and the compatibility with games is variable. We would suggest you purchase either a CycloDS Evolution, an EDGE, or an Acekart 2. These carts have very good compatibility ratings, they are currently maintained and have very few (if any) clones. Additionally, one particular R4 clone (the N5) has been known to cause permanent damage to DS consoles,
They'll love the gift, though. Also, just because a game is (J) dosen't mean they'll never be able to play the game. Some games (such as Soma Bringer and er... Mother 3 for SNES) have english patches where people have actually hacked the game, translated it themselves, and released the patch online for people like us to use! If there's a great, slightly older game (give it about a year to be out before checking) that you know is only out in Japan, it could never hurt to google "Gamename NDS translation patch" and see what you get.

Post the game link, not your personal download link. For flashcart choices, Cyclo, or Acekard 2. Ninebreaker, some games have builtin English (or other language files) templates too. Also, Mother 3 is on GBA.
