Hello Fellow RomU Members, I am planning to build my first custom pc. The links to the parts are below. Can anyone help me out and let me know if the parts will be compatible and if i picked good parts? Thanks. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146067 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131872 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130932 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182073 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113284
PSU is shit, change it. Don't ever by a PSU from a no-name brand because if it blows up it could take the rest of the machine with it. Look for thermaltake, xfx, ocz, seasonic, corsair, silverstone or antec. You have no CPU cooler, don't use the stock one, they're barely adequate. I personally wouldnt buy anything EVGA either, look at MSI, Gigabyte or XFX for graphics cards. I dont see an optical drive (DVD/bluray) or any form of hard disk. you'll also need some arctic silver 5 thermal paste.
thanks. I'll post an updated list. Then we can evaluate if the parts work. Post Merge: [time]1383682276[/time] Alright, here's the updated list: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151266 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146067 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131872 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121775 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153170 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113284 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099 And for LoonyLion and anyone else that's nice enough to help, I have 3 questions: 1. Will these parts work together? 2. Are the parts good enough for gaming (like the newest games today at good fps) and whatnot? 3. These parts have a subtotal of $874.91 BEFORE taxes, and as much as i would die to have a pc like this, I can't blow that much money. Do you guys have any ideas to drop this price to $600 tops while still keeping the pc more or less the same (still a beast)? Thanks for your help!
You can save a bit of money by getting an FX-8320 over an 8350. Also go for a more budget case, you don't need a stormtrooper looking thing; something like a Cooler Master HAF 912 would work fine. Also, are you using a PC now, or a laptop? You can save money by transferring your disk drives and hard drives over to your new rig.
First off, I want to thank you guys both for taking the time to help out. I do know that I'm stretching it a bit with 600 dollars, but i'm not rich. and devonkiin, i have a laptop whose parts I can't transfer. Any other suggestions to push the price back though? Post Merge: [time]1383696690[/time] I checked out the 8320 and cooler master. The 8320 seems a little too weak for great performance and I want the tower to be at least a little aesthetically pleasing, but it isn't.
Don't be fooled by the stock clocks. An OC'ed 8320 performs just as well as an OC'ed 8350. For comparison, my Phenom II x4 955 at stock is 3.2GHz but I have it at a stable OC of 4.0 and can run all games I've thrown at it so far at Very High or Ultra settings. I'm also getting good results with PCSX2, PPSSPP and Dolphin. You can pull out your hard drive, at least. Most new cases have ways of securing 2.5" hard drives. I had a bay converter I could put my laptop drive into, it came with my case.
It's not mounting thats the problem, its the interface. If it's sata that isn't an issue, but if its PATA, which a lot of laptops are, especially older ones, then you need a converter to use it. Not to mention that laptop hard disks would absolutely kill performance because they're designed to sacrifice performance to reduce heat and power consumption.
Sorry I didn't reply quickly, but I have updated my list. However, I don't know if pc gaming is worth it anymore. I mean, yea pcs have better graphics and are faster, but consoles are cheaper and they have all the AAA titles. What do you guys think about the pc game library in terms of this? Don't go all crazy fanboy on me, I just have conflicting views.
You may end up getting more for your money out of the PC gaming library than you could out of consoles. Sure you can get the AAAs but I just brought Arkham Asylum and Arkham City for $4.56.
I know that games are cheaper on pc, but there aren't that many AAA titles, if you know what I mean. Most of the games on pc tend to be indie games that kinda suck and even if they didn't, why wouldn't I rather play popular games? So what do you guys think I should do? One one hand, there's a gaming pc that costs about $900 and only offers a limited library, and on the other hand there's a PS4, which costs $400 and will get pretty much every game. Why should I pick one over the other?
I'm thinking you want us to justify you getting a new PC. Just get the PS4, do the thing that will make you happy. Trust me, you don't wanna upgrade your computer and then be unhappy by what you have.
I'm not asking you guys to justify me getting a pc, I just personally have conflicting views on both ends of console and pc gaming. I'm asking you guys to help me and tell me why one side is better, because I don't know which would make me happier. I've never really gone into pc gaming except with Minecraft, which barely counts, and I have an xbox 360, but obviously the library of the PS4 is not fully known to everybody. So essentially, I need someone to guide me on what is more useful and which of the two would give a better gaming experience.
