Help my son dropped his DS in to the toilet (after i have told him not to time after time )and his DS got soaked
I dried it off and removed the battery. I dont have the tools to open it up to dry off the boards and
from what I have read on the internet it might not work anymore has anyone ever saved a wet DS and if so how?

leave the battery out and the DS near a radiator or in an airing cupboard for several days.

If you turn it on, it'll fry. Maybe one week near a radiator as loony said should do it. Maybe even less should do it, but be on the safe side.

if u have a warranty return it and if not let it dry and if not get it fixed nintendo and if not sell it to gamestop or any other game store just to get some money and buy a new one, whatever works best

2 weeks is safe enough for me. If the warranty is valid, get it to Nintendo only. If you turn it on before it's dry enough, the circuit board will die.

this is umm how should i say it lol its not exactly irrelevant but kinda relevant too;my friend's laptop has water in it from the rain because he place it near the window while it is raining and the rain water went in he spent two days drying it with hair dryer after that(its fujitsu brand by the way)few weeks later the sound board has a problem and when he send it to get a diagnosis the sound board is flooded with mold lol

rang nintendo today they said water damage isnt covered in my warranty and they offered to sell me a new replacement for
AU$150 the usual price is AU $198 i can buy on on ebay cheaper than $150 so i might just have to make him wait for a new one
his ds was less than 3 months old a new red/black what a waste......and it is totaled :(

never tell them the true problem just say its dead :D

yeah just put it in a warm dry place, i've drowen phones before and they work if you leave them from long enough so same should apply for a ds

Yeah seriously, try to dry it up and see if your ds is working. No point wasting that much money on a new one. And also, might I suggest you teach your son a lesson that he should always listen to you by say...teasing him that the DS is gone forever...:(

I dont know if this works with a DS but it works awesome with phones. If you ever get wet electronics then take the battery out so you dont short the circuit, and dont put it back in till dry. Usually water damage will leave either mould or corrosion on the board which can prevent it working or short it out. Rinsing the phone/DS with methylated spirits removes any corrosion or mould. just put it into a large bowl and pour meths over it and then shake it around in the bowl to 'wash' it with the meths, then leave somewhere to dry, meths evapourates very quickly so it shouldnt take long, but leave it overnight in the water cupboard just to be safe. If you can get it open then itll be even easier.

I wouldn't use meths, I'd use isopropyl alcohol. The difference is meths has a colourant that could leave a residue on the board.

Thats a good point. Hadnt thought of that actually, but its worked for every water damaged item ive bought.
